Screen name ideas for a new internet user

Screen name ideas for a new internet user?
My stepdad has never been online before, and he just got the internet at his home. He's hoping to come up with an email address to put on business cards! But, he has the woefully common name of Don L Holland. He works in construction as a contractor, and specializes in log homes. Any ideas for what he could use that wouldn't seem ungainly on a business card?

Whatever the heck he wants. Also, this is going on a BUSINESS card, so it should probably be professional looking. Perhaps dlholland@whatever.com
2 :
If he is using his isp's or his businesses service for an e-mail account, then he should be able to use the screen name holland or donholland. If he wants to use a web-based service to check from anywhere, I would suggest using gmail because they have more good names available than yahoo or msn. A name like idonholland@gmail or even yahoo may be available. idonholland@gmail and hollandbuilds@gmail are both available..I just checked :)

Is Urine Van De Sloot only going to get 7 years with parole after two or will he get of on a work release

Is Urine Van De Sloot only going to get 7 years with parole after two or will he get of on a work release?
Its my Bet he beats the rap. With his momma having so much influence he will get off free. Holland has strong diplomatic ties with Peru. They are already sending him the strongest legal minds his country has to offer and Holland is working through diplomatic channels to get him off with a slap on the wrist. He is now saying his confession was made under duress and that someone else came in through the window found her passed out on the floor and killed her while he was out getting coffee. And when Urine found her she was already dead. He panicked and left her there on the floor and fled. If Holland ever gets their hands on him they will refuse extradition to the U.S. to face the charges there.

If he can't get convicted for killing Holloway, which it looks like he beat the rap, then I hope he gets life in Holland.
2 :
My guess is He will not make out of any Jail in Peru He is put into. I would not want His Life of Sin would you? Like Hitler (even if van der whats his name) seems to get away with it for awhile. They will still be judged ! (Revelation 20:12 KJV) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Hooey? Nope! What about Jesus Christ?? Jesus Christ is without a doubt the Messiah : The Old Testament gives us a thumbprint: "Its says that when you find the person that fits this thumbprint, that's the Messiah!" Throughout History Jesus THE Christ is the only one who has had that thumbprint. If you are A skeptic, I challenge you to study the historical facts about Jesus Christ -- His death, His resurrection, and the prophecies written hundreds of years before He came that show with pinpoint accuracy that Christ Jesus is THE Messiah! Look at the odds of any one person fulfilling these prophecies. A mathematician proved that the chance of any one person fulfilling even 8 of these Old Testament prophecies was : One IN 10 to the 17th power OR 10.00000000000000000! Those Odds would be like covering the earth with silver dollars placing them heads up and painting the back of one THEM GREEN! And giving YOU all the silver dollars if you can pick up the silver dollar with the back painted GREEN in one try ! Oh I forgot to mention that Jesus Christ fulfilled 300 plus prophecies and about 436 details. With that amount of evidence only a very dishonest OR foolish person rejects Him as the Messiah. Psalms 28:3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts. Accept Him as Lord and Savior of your life OR Reject Him at your peril! Your Choice! Maranatha Psalms 30:2 O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. (Psalms 2:12 KJV) Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

He can't be extradited to the U.S. in any case unless he committed a crime in American territory or was in a conspiracy to commit a crime in U.S. territory. Aruba is a Country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, not American territory.
4 :
I sure hope you're wrong. In the sick world we live in, it wouldn't shock me to see him get away with another murder. They speculate that he might be involved in the dissapearance of two other girls in Columbia. He's a nasty young man, who is just barely smart enough to be really dangerous. I just hope that the combination of the charges in Peru and the pending ones from the US for extortion, that he will spend at least a few years in a Peruvian prison. I hear they are lovely.
5 :
He confessed on tape to killing Holloway. He confessed to killing Stephany Flores, and it is believed that he may have killed two others or is connected with their dissaperance. He is a serial killer and hopefully he will be locked away for good.
6 :
If this was in the US, he'd probably beat the rap via an insanity plea...not sure how easy this is to pull off in Peru tho. Plus, all of his weaseling may be catching up with him, especially since the FBI has a lot of egg on their faces due to their botching of the sting in Aruba...there are going to be a LOT of people looking over their shoulders to enourage them to make sure nothing gets screwed up if/when Van de Scum goes to trial.
7 :
there are thousands of europeans in peruvian prisons, most of them on drug charges but murderers are treated worse. Some of them from wealthy families. I accept your bet. You'll see that he will rot because peruvian prisons are the living hell, mostly for gringos. you can't imagine how bad it is there. usa jails are like kindergarten in comparison. A peruvian.

Does iPhone work in Europe

Does iPhone work in Europe?
Does anyone know if all of the unlocked iPhones would work in Europe (Holland to be more specifically). Also can someone tell me how to distinguish a fake iphone from a real one, there are so many fake ones out there that look a lot like the actual iPhone. Thanks

1 :
Yes. From what i know its the law in certain countries that you have to have your phone unlocked. iPhones are GSM phones which means they can work all around the world. If you arent from Europe and visiting then your carrier might have special international plans for travellers. Contact your provider for more info. There are many ways to distinguish the two. The only faux iPhones created are all main in Asia. They use the same concept. One way to to look at the screen on the faux iPhone and a normal one. If there are many differences("feature strip" thats on the screen at all times and isnt included as apart of the screen). The look at the home button, there might be soft keys other than the home button or something other than the white squre. Then look at the backing. 80% of the time it has the external speakers near the camera area. Also if you have the physical phone in hand then go to the music feature and if you can go though music by shaking the phone then its a obvious fake. Ummmmmm......Thats all i can think of. UPDATE: Look at the menu home of the fake and the real. That is the easiest wayy to give off if its a fake or real.
2 :
Yes, the iPhone will work overseas, and not just in Europe and Asia. The iPhone is a GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) phone. GSM, which uses narrowband TDMA, was first introduced as a standard in 1991 and is now in place in over 100 countries. Access to receive and place calls from outside the United States will require additional services from AT&T/Cingular, which you will need to arrange with them before your phone will operate in such a fashion, but the phone is perfectly capable for worldwide use. The Iphone Clone is called the HiPhone they are almost alike and better price. You can get the real iphone or clone Hiphone from http://www.winnersprice.com

What typical South African gifts to take to Holland

What typical South African gifts to take to Holland?
I am going to work as an au pair from Dec in Holland. I would like to give the family some typical South African gifts for Xmas. Any suggestions? The 3 boys are 6, 11 and 12, and mom and dad. I am clueless, and the family's info isn't very helpful either.

Ge them any kind of clothing with the big 5 animal insignia. Similarly, get a nice table cloth from material shops with the big 5 pattern. Dutch folks love it.

Unlike the USA, EU countries don't have a visa lottery. Unless you are moving for family reunification, or have a specific job offer for a skilled position and you have the requisite qualifications, you cannot move to Europe.
2 :
If you have no claim to citizenship of an EU member state then you need to apply for a visa to live & work in the one of the countries you're interested in Look at the websites for the Embassies of Germany, Belgium & The Netherlands, they will have information on applying for visas German Embassy http://www.germany.info/Vertretung/usa/en/04__Legal/02__Directory__Services/01__Visa/__Visa.html Belgian Embassy http://www.diplobel.us/TravelingBelgium/Visas/Employees.asp Embassy of The Netherlands http://dc.the-netherlands.org/Services/Consular_services/Visa Go to your local library or nearest big bookstore, in the travel section there should be books about living & working in those countries, they should go through the legal ins & outs of living there and offer advice on finding work If you google you'll also find forums for Americans living in various European countries offering advice on how to move to them.

Do you mean you applied for the EHIC card? If so then this covers you only as a tourist in the Netherlands and only for emegency cover, so e.g. going to a doctor for a routine issue is not covered only. it is only for emegencies and may not even cover all costs anyway. An EHIC card issued by the UK is only for UK residents. http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/staying-safe/travel-insurance/ehic As soon as you register at the gemeentehuis (municipality) which you will need to do in order to get a BSN number (like the UK NI number) in order to work, then you become a legal resident When you are legally residing in the Netherlands the EHIC card will not cover you, and all NL residents are required by law to have the basic health insurance cover. http://www.minvws.nl/en/themes/health-insurance-system/default.asp Now there is one possibility I know of if you are not working and that is claiming benefit under the E106 and you can read about this here http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcareabroad/movingabroad/Pages/Livingabroad.aspx However as soon as you have work, then you will need Dutch health insurance.

Would like to move to Holland/Amsterdam - Advice on finding work and renting

Would like to move to Holland/Amsterdam - Advice on finding work and renting?
After a trip to Amsterdam a month ago i've been fixated on the idea of moving over there. Is there anyway I can just packup and go with my girlfriend? Everywhere I look for apartments they are looking at 2000 euro per month, even in Jordaan and Haarlem the rent is not that much cheaper. Any advice on housing would be appreciated. Secondly finding work is another problem... personally I have a background in IT and have found many specialist IT positions yet most require specialist experience or qualifications. I have college (UK BTEC) qualifications at the highest possible level before University and have a varied knowledge of all things IT and currently run an online store and offer local support. However any jobs I have heard back from won't consider an application till I have a Dutch Social Security number. Not that I want to be stuck in IT, i'd happily work in a bar/restaurant/coffeeshop or anywhere else in the city. Data entry would even get me by as the City is so wonderful. Is it easy to get a job? If I were to just packup, go and register with local police authorities in Amsterdam to say I now live there would I be able to claim Benefits to help me get by? And as for accomodation how would this work? Believe me I don't want to stay on benefits and i'm a hardworking individual. I just need to get out of England :). Kind regards and hopefully someone can help!

I'd think very carefully about moving to the Netherlands at the moment: the credit crisis has frightened everywhere, and many companies are just not hiring at the moment, particularly people who don't speak Dutch. Now isn't the time for anyone, anywhere, to be walking away from a certain job into the unknown. That said, IT skills are as in demand here as anywhere else try http://www.xpatjobs.com/ for an overview.

I moved to Amsterdam with my boyfriend 4months ago! First of all; finding a job is not easy; I searched for more than 6 months( I also have an IT background)I am Turkish so I found a Turkish company to get my dutch residence card; no dutch company wants to take you without your permission; unless you are very lucky.. And if you get the residence permit; you can take your gf with you and you dont have to be married for her to get the residence too; just live in the same house thats it.. But the rentals are very expensive.. I live in one of the best places in Amsterdam(called Overtoom);its very close to the center and a beautiful street near Vonedlpark; and I give 1500euros per month (including all expenses like gas;water..) but you can find cheaper houses if you want to move a little further from the center.. But be prepared the houses are really small here.. Amsterdam is a nice place to live (except the weather):) I hope you find a job:)

Well if your primary goal is to get stoned all the time and use marijuana habitiually then I suggest you stay in the UK as the usage rate in the UK is far higher than the Netherlands. It's tough enough to get a job in this current climate, but if you add to that the fact that you (a) don't speak Dutch (b) don't have any skills/education and (c) have a ethos which is actually contrary to that of the average Dutch person then I would say it's going to be nigh impossible for you Have you honestly thought this through? You will not be entitled to any form of benefit from the Dutch government so that rules out help with social housing, unemployment benefit etc. Getting accomodation in Amsterdam (which I presume is where you will gravitate towards) is not easy and it most definately is not cheap either. You are looking at paying around the รข‚¬700-900 for a basic one bedroom place (without a waiting list) in a not so great area and then you have to pay 2-3 months in advance anyway. Do you have that kind of money in your pocket? If you are serious then come over to the Netherlands and see for yourself. Don't just act and view the country as a tourist. Visit the job agencies to see your chances of getting employment and then what kind of salary level. Then check the accomodation situation and see for yourself. Talk to locals and you will see that everything I have said is bang on. Contrary to what you believe the drugs policy here is a pragmatic one designed to actually deter persons for having an addiction to any form of drugs but certainly not one designed to encourage it. Employers respect people have a choice to do as they wish with their homelife so long as it does not affect their working life. From the mere sentence of "I wanna go to Holland get stoned and work if i can to support my habit" sounds like you have things back-to-front and actually this is very child-like. Sorry but I talk from real-life and I guess it's time for a reality check! @ Mal, thx ;)
2 :
At age 35 you need to grow up, you sound like a 17 year old. Think about training to do some work and forget the cannabis. The Dutch are sick to the back teeth of foreigners going to Amsterdam to get stoned.

How can I work with with people in tarot card reading

How can I work with with people in tarot card reading?
I'm 14 and my parents cannot afford all my books and other compulsary needs for school. I bought a pack of "Psychic Tarots by Dean Holland" , are they good to work with other people or do I need to buy a traditional pack of cards? I don't want any dumb answers , I want you to answer my question, Tarot card reading is what interests me . recently my parents lost their jobs , I bought my tarot cards a very long time ago before my parents lost their jobs

You're poor and spent money on tarot cards instead of books for school? Wow, you're dumb.
2 :
I looked at the Psychic Tarot, and I think they will do just fine for learning. They have all the Major Arcana, and the non-court cards from the Minor Arcana. Since the missing cards are the "court" cards (which are famously hard for the beginner to interpret) I think you can learn to do readings easily using these cards. If a book came with the deck. read it but most people find the books that come with decks to be pretty worthless so if it is confusing you, don't bother. Use whatever is your best means of memorization (mine was to write the cards' meanings down in a notebook) and do small, simple spreads to start, 1-3 cards at most. Since you have access to the internet, go to learntarot.com and read additional meanings for the cards there. There is also a wealth of information at aeclectic.com. After a while you may want to get another deck, but for now these should be fine. Enjoy your journey!
3 :
Any cards are good to do reading and to "work with people" (not sure what you mean by that). You can even do readings with simple playing cards, you will just need to know how to interpret them. The priority when you chose a deck, is to make sure the pictures "speak" to you, meaning that you will respond to each illustration in an emotional way. Try first to get familiar with your deck by playing with it, by becoming familiar with each cards. Then, slowly, you can start to do small spreads and see how it goes. Enjoy!
4 :
The Crowley deck! The book of Thoth by Alister Crowley is the book you want to have. The Tarot Handbook by Angeles Arrien is a good book to add to your collection. I have been studying Tarot for almost 20 years. Numbers fascinate me and I have been able to relate to them early in life. Research online you will see that the deck is full of symbols, artistically designed and is the most accurate to the tree of life. Good luck with your studies. Don't let anyone discourage you from learning what feels right to you.

You should look for information on the website of the IND, http://www.ind.nl/EN/index.asp And you have to find an employer. In the new act, the employers of highly skilled migrants (kennismigranten) will acquire the status of recognised sponsor. They will have statutory information and administration obligations and sometimes also duties of care. The sponsor will inform the IND if there are changes that may have consequences for the residence rights of the migrant, for example in the event the migrant terminates his employment. The IND furthermore requests the sponsor to keep certain documents in its records, for example the employment contract. In the new act, employers of highly skilled migrants are required to obtain official recognition as sponsor. This recognised status will allow the IND to settle their applications in the accelerated procedure.

Instead of banning cannabis for tourists in Holland, would this idea work better?

Instead of banning cannabis for tourists in Holland, would this idea work better?
At airports, hotels, and exchange bureaus in the Netherlands (mainly Amsterdam), allow tourists to purchase permit cards that allow tourists to enjoy a limited purchase of coffeeshop cannabis per day. Each permit card would have a bar code indicating the passport number of the purchaser, making it only possible to have 1 card per tourist. At each coffeeshop, a tourist would need to show their passport and the permit card. Upon purchasing cannabi, the permit card would magnetically keep track of amounts of cannabis purchased per day, and there would be a max-out limit. The cost of administering and maintaining permit cards would be covered by charging fees to purchase a permit card plus a profit for Dutch tourism, shared by the hotels and airports and other venues. This would in my opinion create a nice balance between monitoring the drug-related activities of tourists and not punishing responsible tourists. Would this be a good idea? AND if a tourist does commit a drug-related crime or causes a disturbance, then allow Dutch authorities to Void/suspend any tourist's cannabis permit card in the system. My point is you can charge money for the permit card, so this a profit-making idea, is good for tourism, and ALSO keeps marijuana crime in check. So this isn't about crime reduction or safety so much as international portrayal of Dutch culture? So it is Dutch people's cultural standard of common decency or do you speak for the entire West or the world standard of common decency to be led by Netherlands?
Netherlands - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No, it would not be a good idea since the whole idea of the card system is to get the drugs tourists to stay away. No, it's about us Dutch getting slowly fed up with dopeheads. Dopeheads in Amsterdam who think they can puke and be sick everywhere. Dopeheads in the south and east who think that, since dope is "legal" traffic rules or even common decency don't apply any more.
2 :
While the idea sounds reasonable - i do have a problem with it. First of all - you suggest that all tourists would be coming for, would be drugs. Newsflash, tolerance for drug addicts that only come here to feed their addiction is diminishing. Second - you`d in effect open a door to legalize hard drugs. Why? Because they`ll say "i have this card so that means drugs aren't bad - so why no cocaine/heroin/crack on the card" Third - drug related crime will happen regardless of it being illegal or legal. It`s people that walk with their heads drugged up acting criminally - similar to drunk driving (alcohol being legal, yet still alcohol related crimes are committed weekly) What we would like, is to people to stop perpetuating the lie that 'drugs are legal in Amsterdam'. As they simply are not. Or, to use the same logic - someone once told me that in the US he shot a burglar - and wasn't arrested. So, why is it legal in the US to shoot people? Frankly - i`d prefer the whole world waking up - and realizing the damage drugs, and alcohol, does - and everyone deciding to stop. now THAT would be a nice step towards world peace.

Wouldn't that rather be discrimination than racism? Racism is the belief that one race is superior/inferior to another. And there should be no problem for you in Holland. This is a strange question.
2 :
You should be hired based your skills on the job you will be performing. But depending on the job, your body weight can play a role. Generally, an overweight person is less dynamic physically, and if you are planing to get a job with physical duties, they can reasonably expect you to be fit. Also, the hiring process entails a process of getting the interviewers to "like you" and subconsciously a fat person has less chances. Also, foreigns usually have a weaker standing when looking for jobs, so my advice is: start a diet.
3 :
Well congratulations on picking the Netherlands. It is true that many people are slim here, but at the same time, colour, creed, weight etc are not discriminated in the same way as other countries do Just show your personality and make sure you have the experience and qualifications to justify any applications you make, and don't worry. Any employer worth his salt will employ on that basis and not what dress size you are.

Architects, should I go to Holland

Architects, should I go to Holland ?
I am a second year architecture student form South Africa. I have the opportunity to work somewhere in Holland for the second simester of next year as a manditory 6 month practical. The only problem is, I don't know how much they're going to pay and if I will be able to eat and maybe, just maybe have a good time now and again. The university may pay for our lodging, but that's not a given yet. My parients can't afford to pay anything other than getting me there and I have no savings to speak of. Here it'd be easy to find work. We've been given a list of 30 firms eagre to hire us, and there are only 20 students that need to be placed. I still live at home so whatever they're paying would be pocket money. So, what I want to know from somebody actually in the know, will I be able to survive financially? A chance like this doesn't come around too often. I really want this to happen.

WORKING IN HOLLAND WITH A UK BASED LIMITED COMPANY

WORKING IN HOLLAND WITH A UK BASED LIMITED COMPANY?
Ok as the title says really, I am the director of my limited company (1 man band) and have been using this for the last 5 or so years on and off as required without problem, mainly for different jobs in the uk. However i have now started a new contract in holland, and was told from the agent i wont be liable for any dutch tax and NI, however i have my concerns having read different reports online, the job will be for less than 183 days, however dont know if this 183 day rule even applies? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance Jonathan just to clarify i have not worked in holland before and i am residing in the uk
United Kingdom - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The 183 rule only applies if you are not resident in the UK. Unless you will be out of the UK for a complete tax year (6 April to 5 April), with less than 60 days in the UK in between, then you will remain liable for UK tax and will not be liable to Dutch tax.
2 :
The 183 days rule is generally used to decide your residency position. However the mere intention to reside in Holland for longer periods is enough to make you or deem you resident for tax purposes in Holland. So if your contract is likely to exceed 183 days and you advise the Dutch authorities from day 1 that you intend to reside in Holland, for lets say 2 yrs, then you will be deemed, for tax purposes, resident in Holland. However you state that the contract is less than 183 days but if you already been there prior to commencing this new contract again you may be deemed liable for dutch tax. If you have not been there and work less than 183 days then UK tax is applied. Its not really a simple yes or no answer, several factors come into play including the mere intention to reside in Holland. Tac Doctor

I have met quite a few American and Canadian men from working in an International company, and the vast majority of them were living here because of being in a relationship with a Dutch girl, so you would be by no means the first to do so if you did find the woman of your dreams :0) Surprisingly enough, the Canadian guys I met were not really attractive physically (ok of course this is my opinion), but were amusing, intelligent and quick witted, which made them excellent company. This is pretty important in my opinion as beauty really is skin deep, and there is little point hanging off the arm of someone stunningly god looking but who can't have a decent conversation or doesn't know how to spell fun :0) So if you have the opportunity and you relish the chance of working abroad (a lot of people would kill for this by the way!), then I would say go for it P.S. - Whilst generally Dutch (men and women) are re-known for being tall, it is not the case that the majority of women are over 6ft, so don't worry about that.
4 :
That depends entirely on the man. At any rate, I think the cultural differences are probably small enough that you won't run into to many problems on that front. And pretty much all Dutch people speak English. Especially the younger generation. If you're working abroad, you're probably educated and enterprising. If you're a good guy you should have no more trouble then you do at home. Don't bank to much on your looks. They might give you an in, but in the end it'll depend on your personality.
5 :
Dutch women dont have a problem with canadian or US men. But one thing most dutch women dont like is ignorance. Unfortunately many US people can be quite ignorant when it comes to global issues. So as long as you dont think the US is the greatest and most correct nation in the world you would have a good chance with Dutch women. You dont say how tall you are, but most Dutch men are well over 6 feet tall, so if you are shorter than 5''10 some women might not be that interested straight away. Also, Dutch women like real, open and honoust men, modesty is appreciated as well. Dont pretend that you are 'all that', or women will think you are being dishonoust and are trying to overcompensate. 'Blingbling' doesnt get you very far with most dutch women. Unless you are looking for a fling with a 20yr old ;-) Most Dutch women are well educated and independent, they want men to be their equal in a relationship, they dont want or need to be rescued.
6 :
" Unfortunately many US people can be quite ignorant when it comes to global issues. "..what a load of stereotypical european elitism..in words you might understand...b****sh**. i challenge you to debate any topic regarding "global" issues
7 :
I canร‚´t speak for all women in the Netherlands... but Dutch people are interested in other cultures... So, yes... there is a chance for you! Donร‚´t put too much attention on that you are from North America... Many Dutch people think that North Americans are a bit arrogant, but if they know them personally there is no problem at all.

American working in Holland

American working in Holland?
Hey, this is probably a stupid question but I'm wondering..so I'll ask anyway. I know you need a visa to live in Holland for more than three months and all that.. But, say I wanted to move to Holland but don't have a job lined up yet..can I move there then find a job? What would be my chances of finding a job there? I don't speak Dutch but want to learn. Are my chance slim? It seems like they would be haha, but oh well.

you are gonna get a 4 paragraph answer from someone..but i will simplify it...simple answer is no...longest you can stay is 3 months period
2 :
Well I will try to give you more of an answer than just no, and heavens forbid that it might even involve more than just one paragraph, and even more than four ..... the horror of that eh Anyway there is a major hurdle for an American to move to the Netherlands and to work here Basically to move over here with the wish to live and work, then you would have to find an employer who would apply for a work permit on you behalf. That work permit would not be granted unless it was proven that the job is of such a specialist nature that no-one else in the total pool of labour from (not just the Netherlands but the) whole EEA area. Therefore even a University graduate with no work experience is going to struggle to meet the requirements even in with the right ecomony (ie loads of jobs and few applicants) You can read more about the details of it here in a question I answered a while ago for another American interested in the same. It gives links to the IND (Dutch immigration site), how to look for jobs and accommodation as well. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au4FSM_iOwVeAeSn5NGVt4fty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081029005645AAYhd63 (saving me retyping and also this turning out to be a very long answer!) As mentioned, you also have to take into account that the economy is having an effect on the EEA market and whilst the Netherlands is not (yet?) as badly affected as other EU countries such as Spain or the UK, of course the labour market in those countries are free to move to the Netherlands as well and jobs that don't require many qualifications/experience are easily filled by EEA passport holders. So read the link I gave you first, and then you can follow up with details on: http://www.ind.nl/EN/verblijfwijzer/ - immigration dept wizard http://www.ind.nl/en/Images/4012_VIN_ENG_tcm6-595.pdf - immigration dept overview (brochure) http://www.netherlands-embassy.org/dutchmissions.asp - links to Dutch consolate details and a confirmation of what I stated also http://www.cgny.org/article.asp?articlerรข€¦ Another good source is the expat sites and you can check forums as well to see people who have "been there, done that" http://www.justlanded.com/english/Netherlands http://holland.angloinfo.com/ http://www.expatica.com/nl/main.html In short, you need highly specialist skills which are in demand to get you into the Netherlands (unless you have a proven relationship with a Dutch national) for living & working. Another route is to work for a company in the US which has branch offices in NL with the aim of being transferred based on in-house experience built up - but it also has to be said that this is becoming less common/needed these days as well Sorry if this sounds overly negative to someone who is genuinally interested, but it is better if you read and check in advance than to make a costly trip and be dissappointed at the end of it.

look on the internet and papers find a job for an english speaking person yeah its not that hard if you think about it

Personally I can not recomment the netherlands. I have worked harder than anyone here - I am pennyless - out of work - and everybody is violating my civil rights without the police or government is doing anything about it. I would advise you not to contact me or ask to camp with me - they want to evict me now before august 23 - I have done nothing - but the neigbours on 4 and 8-10 are completely insane. Can you beleive it - at nr. 8 was first a big sign that so and so and so and so were married. They do not even live there - then there was a big sign a baby was born - it was there for exactly one day (a guess they rented the baby somewhere). Still I will refuse to leave the house - I have already done so much work on it - and I got it legally. I have the idea though the house carries a dark deep secret - maybe it was used for executions by a criminal organisation (or a secret service) and all those criminals around me are afraid all there dark deep secrets will come out when I live there. If you want to come to the nehterlands - do not come to the south.
3 :
in order to get perminant residance in The Netherlands you have to speak Dutch. Its the law. There is a test that you have to take and it is in Dutch and only Dutch. Naturally if youre from an EU country you dont have to take any test, but if you are not you have to prove that you have made an effort to blend into Dutch society - and that means speaking Dutch.
4 :
In contrast to many people here, I would not say it is impossible. Yes, the regulations became more strict for foreign people to live there (including a test at some point) but that doesn't apply to EU citizens. Many Dutch people speak English, so it is easy to survive without speaking the language. But without speaking the language, it is more difficult to find a job indeed, although for things like aupair or within universities there are definitely options. And, of course, it makes life so much easier when you speak the language of a country! I'm not sure where you are located in the UK, but if you happen to live in London - go and visit the pub "De Hems" where a lot of Dutch people go to (11 Macclesfield Street, LONDON, W1V 7LF). I am sure they can give you valuable advice also with regard to accommodation and getting work. Or check some websites like: http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/Workingortrainingineurope/Dev_009854.xml.html or the Dutch embassy in London (includes lots of links to other pages) http://www.mfa.nl/beheer/aspx/get.aspx?xdl=../views/post/xdl/Page&VarIdt=132&SitIdt=169&ItmIdt=33502&reload=true You may also be interested in learning Dutch online: http://www.hull.ac.uk/lagelands/ (University of Hull) or for lessons in person: http://www.kwintessential.co.uk/language/learn-dutch.html and I am sure there are more institutions like this.

Can I open a bank account in Holland

Can I open a bank account in Holland?
I am European citizen (Spanish) but Im thinking about opening a bank account in Holland. * I did my studies there, so I have a Sofinummer (from 2004, dont know if it's still working) * I have a good friend living there, so I could use her address * I dont have a dutch contact, or work in Holland... Would it still be possible to open a bank account there? The bank in question is ING Thanks a lot if you can help me !! :D

In order to open an account with the ING you must at least show ID in person to the branch of the ING in the town you are registered. http://www.ing.nl/particulier/betalen/betaalrekeningen/betaalrekening-openen.aspx confirms this fact "Als u een nieuwe klant van de ING bent, moet u zich identificeren bij het ING-kantoor" - which says that if you are a new customer to ING then you have to ID yourself at the ING branch Also whilst your pinpas would be sent to your house, you would have to pick up in person both your pincode and code for internet banking in person as well Banks will check to ensure the person is registered & legally residing in the Netherlands. We opened an ING account because we got a mortage with them a year or so ago and this involved producing ID cards and signing/picking up stuff in person. On that basis you will not be able to open an account with the ING if you are not legally residing in the Netherlands as far as I know - sorry
2 :
i just opened one all you need is A SOFI NUMBER MAKE AN APPOINMENT WITH THEM @kingsburghstraat you have to speak dutch to them cos they refuse to speak any other langauage so if you speak dutch or know of anyone GOOD LUCK hope this helps .
3 :
Good answer as usual from bla bla, but just to go a little further; up to a few years ago (< > 8?) it was possible to open an account without being a resident of The Netherlands as long as the account was used. However this changed to being able to open a bank account only if regular deposits were made via a wage / salary or a regular direct debit payment. (Although if the account already existed before this change, the account remained open) Of course, as to whether this applies to all banks I'm not sure, but this was my experience with AMRO.

It depends on the her situation, work experience, education, job offers. We can process papers within one week or it could take as long as 6-8months for an open work permit. A 2004 analysis done by the Economic consultants at the National Economic Research Associates came up with the following summary comparison of average Hospital salaries earned by Doctors : USA: $266,733 Australia: $203,132 Netherlands: $175,155 Britain: $127,285 France: $116,077 Italy: $81,414 Denmark: $73,236 Spain: $67,785 Germany: $56,455 Hospital Consultant salaries in United Kingdom were seen to have increased by 16% since 2004 to around 110,000 Pounds a year ($217,000 in Jan 2008 US Dollars) I was surprised to see Australia and Holland make it to the second and third place respectively - was rather expecting Britain doctors - but then later it sank in that these amounts were 'adjusted' for purchasing power (i.e. calibrating the 'bang for the buck' by taking into account the take-home pay AFTER taxes and the consumer price indices or local price of goods) and that these were hospital-based salaries. Non-Hospital Physician-owned setup salaries might be a different story as we already saw on this blog how General Practitioner salaries in United Kingdom have skyrocketed after a 2004 NHS contract.

Holland America Line Vs. Carnival Cruises

Holland America Line Vs. Carnival Cruises?
I admit it (as some have mailed me asking...) I work for Holland America Line (HAL) as a Deck Officer. Although we are all part of the same organisation, Carnival Corp, I have to admit, those of us that work on HAL ships often 'look down' on our Carnival Cruises collegues as our...erm.. poorer cousins. But the thing is, other than lending some much needed spare navigation equipment to a Carnival vessel one day, ive never actually been around their ships. For those that have sailed with both Companies a question - we in HAL think we provide a more professional, initmate if not exclusive service than Carnival, but the thing is, do we have a right to think that? Are we any different/better?, or have we too been sucked into the mass market, cost saving, few frills cruising that has made Carnival so popular with the masses?

if your still young and loveto party carnival is the way but a classier trip more spoiling ect. is holland i cruse as much as we can 2 times a year or more and they both hve there pluses food on holland a lil better not so much youd notice people are a lil stooty on holland. carnival is a floting party and is for the younger drinkers.
2 :
I have been on many cruises but never on either of these two. Chances are I will do a Holland America cruise one day, when I find the right itinerary and price. Chances are also I will NEVER do a Carnival cruise. The first cruise that I booked back in the late 1980's I was told by a travel agent that Carnival is the cruise line for young folks (20's), first timers and folks looking for a budget cruise. Nothing has changed since then in information I have seen and heard that changes that. On the other hand I have heard that Holland America is a great line with great ships and service but it caters primarily to older folks (like those my age and older (63)). Last year we went on a cruise out of Boston and some folks were on our shuttle to the pier who were going on HA and they were joking that they wanted/needed to know if anyone was a MD because they would probably need one before the cruise was over. So in my mind HAL is a better ship for service and accommodations. Whether that is true I will just have to wait and find out when I go on a HAL cruise.
3 :
I have been on a lot of Carnival cruises and also Holland America. On the Carnival cruises, since they're typically less expensive, I have noticed tons more children. That is OK if you like a lot of kids and teenagers running around everywhere and don't mind the noise. On Holland America, we noticed that the average age is much older, (less children, even though, of course there are still children on board.) The Holland America ships are not as large as some of the larger Carnival ships and this can be a "two-edged sword". The amenities on the larger ships are more extensive and naturally the larger ships are usually the newer ships and it's always nice to be on a newer ship. The food has improved dramatically on Carnival so I wouldn't rate either cruise line as better in regards to the food. What I would suggest is getting a book from both cruise lines and compare the ships and amenities offered, as well as the price. For me, I like the Holland America cruises better when it comes to the fact that there are less children running and screaming but other than that, I prefer the Carnival ships for the amenities. Either way, you'll have a wonderful time!
4 :
Carnival all the way. I have cruised with them twice, and have had a great time every time. The food was always great, the activites were well planned and enjoyable. I don't care what anyone says, I will not go anywhere else. And to be totally honest, I am really getting tired of reading everywhere that Carnival is not good by people who self-admittedly have never even been on a Carnival cruise. They offer expert advice about something they have no knowledge about. I have actually stopped reading cruise ship reviews at several sites because of this very reason. I have never been on an RCCL cruise, so I don't tell people they are not good. I truly believe it is the pinnacle of arrogancy for someone to down a company that they have never even dealt with based on second hand information.
5 :
I have been on Carnival and Have heard all the stories as it being a party ship and full of children, the party ship days have been long gone from what I can tell seeing if you are 20 or under you need to be with someone 25 that is standard I know but dose discourage partier, as for the children that may be more timing we Cruise between Sept and Dec and there are only a few children and the only reason we see them is because 2 of them (one a teen) are ours. we home school so we make our on time to go and it is when the others are in school. I have found that the service is very good, I can not go to my state room and come back and I know it has been clean again, as they tease that the room stewards live under the beds, with as quick as they are you do have to wonder. and the dinning room is no less attentive it is not long before they can have what we want before we ask like cappuccino every night, or in the interacting with us to make the hole thing great, my sons still talk about our servers So pick what you want but please don't judge by the past other wise no one would ever be going on Cunard, after all they owned the Titanic ;)

Do Virgin Mobile phones work in Europe? England, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany

Do Virgin Mobile phones work in Europe? England, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany,...?
...Italy, Spain, Austria? We will visit all the above countries within 30 days. Would we need to rent phones for each country?
Other - Europe - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No. European phones use a system called GSM, and Virgin Mobile uses an incompatible system called CDMA. All European countries use the same GSM system, so the same phone will work in all of them. Get a cheap phone in the first country you visit, load it up with a reasonable amount of airtime, and just use it. I've bought an adequate phone in the UK for 10 pounds ($16) and the airtime cost about 30 cents/min in the UK and 50 cents/min in other countries.
2 :
I believe there's also a phone carrier called Virgin Mobile in the UK, but the US incarnation is different. Virgin Mobile USA uses Sprint's network, and their phones use CDMA technology (just like Sprint's). In Europe, there's no CDMA service, so your phone won't work there. You could try asking Virgin Mobile USA's customer service whether they have any kind of rental agreement with a European carrier, so that you could rent a phone in Europe and pay for calls out of your current balance, but even if they do, it'll probably be cheaper to just find a cheap phone to rent or buy once you get there. The good news is you shouldn't need to get a separate phone for each country. All of Europe uses GSM technology on the same radio frequencies, and once you have a phone that works in any European country, it should work in all of them.
3 :
Q. Can I use my Virgin Mobile phone if I am traveling outside the United States? A.Our coverage area includes all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. At this time, our phones won't work on networks outside that area. Sorry. At the moment - the demand is low. Due to 'cheap' labor from the eastern European countries, and the 'crisis' - there are not many jobs. Unless you are specially skilled, or have a unique ability - the chances are minimal.
2 :
you need to speak dutch though. there are plenty of qualified blue and white collar dutch speaking ex-pat's in Amsterdam... for some reason (Hmmm -- I wonder why ?)

NOPE! its all a hoax to get your money! It probably does give you cancer though, who knows.
2 :
If they really worked do you think women would be getting invasive breast implant surgery done???????????? They are scams. Don't waste your money on them.
3 :
probably not. I think all those pills, and bravas, creams are all scams just to get money. 9 out 10 aren't even FDA approved. Check the label. Don't believe the hype.
4 :
Probably not! A more physical alternative though is a breast enhancement machine. I tried it, got it from yourlizzy.com, and it has helped me tremendously. I gained a cup size in 3 months time...from 34AA to 34B!

You need to either get hired by a company in America who will send you overseas, or get hired by an overseas company who will fill out the paperwork so that you can get a work visa. Check out the link below.
2 :
i would to work and live in europe again
3 :
Pastor Dave above is right; to get a job in the Netherlands, you need to have a company in that country provide you with a work contract and have them do the required paperwork for you to be able to work there. As with most immigration laws, you need to have certain skills or be in a certain profession to be considered for a position there. Your best bet is to check out Dutch immigration policy and information about your career.

how to find a girlfriend in holland

how to find a girlfriend in holland?
I am working in Holland from quite a while, and people say that I am a nice person. I go easy with girls, i can strike up a conversation, but I don't know how to be more than friend with a girl here. Do I need to be implicit or explicit? I am feeling really frustrated about this thing. ******************************************** EDIT: help again. I met a nice girl yesterday and talked with her for a while. I got her phone number and asked her if we could meet some time. I need some suggestions how to ask her again to meet up and if she refuses I dont want that to become very hard thing. Moreover I think she will come for a coffee but then I dont know how to carry on the conversation flowing (I am not a talkative person)........... any suggestions please.

maybe you can ask a nice guy there how to do it...if Y!A didn't work,of course.
2 :
Well, i guess i can only say: be yourself! ... i mean what makes you special? (you don't need to answer here, is just for you to think about), how have you done it in the past back in your country?, show your charms and try; there is a saying here in NL that says: no you have, yes you can get... so try! ... Women all over the world like to be treated with respect, to be listened, ask them out and see with which one you feel better, be yourself, be honest and have good healthy fun in the mean time... I am not dutch but i live here already for a while and well, i have noticed that is more about your attitude, your personality, about you been you... Maybe i didn't say anything new to you, but being yourself is number one rule, if you want a nice relationship.. so go for it! Good luck :)
3 :
Be yourself and you shoudn/t be shy to start a conversation I wish you luck
4 :
Well I agree with the "be yourself" approach because trying to be someone else is a bad start to meeting anyone (as the truth will always come out in the long term anyway) The first thing I would do is to enlist the confidence of a couple of female friends (which you say you have). Girls generally like to give advice (spoken from a girl here!) and as long as they are trustworthy friends of yours then there is no reason not to ask this question to them. The advantage is that they know you, your personality, looks, demeanor etc etc, and them can give you more personal advice based on their own observations. Maybe it is something simple like not smiling enough, not giving the right signals, not being overt enough in showing you are interested in finding a gf etc and they are best placed to notice this compared with strangers answering you here The other thing I would do is to example the circles in which you are looking for a gf. Are you just looking at work/college for a gf? If so then it's a small circle and of course the smaller the circle, the lesser the chance you will click with someone. So try to extend your social life to scenario's where you would meet other females e.g. going out for a drink, joining a sports club or something that brings you into touch with fellow minded people and especially girls]\ Of course there are websites online you could also look at, but the majority are in Dutch (not sure what your Dutch is like) and also be wary because there are both fraudsters and also people who find it easy to produce a persona from behind a pc screen which is not their own. Concerning your point about being implicit/explicit - well there's a balance. Acting like a dog in mating season running from female to female is not likely to gain you much credence, but likewise shyly sitting there waiting for someone to find you is not going to help - so it's about striking this balance. I'm not sure what the norm is for Indonesian girls (you mentioned this is where you were from in another question), but Dutch girls are not really shy compared with some nationalities and so you may need to be more explicit (I would call it overt) then perhaps what you are being - but this is just guesswork because I don't know you. Like I said, try to enlist the help of your female friends (even to the point of asking them if they have a friend whom they think would be interested in you) and this might help Best of luck EDIT Well if your female friends already tell you that you don't show enough interest, then it seems you have the answer already :0) There are more subtle ways you can read about like body language, holding eye contact etc, but on the basis of what your friends say, I would suggest you take this up a level by being more direct e.g. ask the girl you are interested in out on a date and use those words so it's clear that it's more than just friends (then there's no misunderstanding) I'm not the best person to suggest places for meeting singles to be honest as I am married and have been out of the dating scene for a long time really now :0) Maybe Ollin or someone else can help with this? I can completely understand you not wanting to use websites and in your situation I would also be wary of the same. One possibility is to use Hyves (social network site) and it is not a 'harsh' as a dating site Regarding your comments about wanting a girl to tell you to go further, it's kind of a catch 22 situation because if you are too passive and don't make obvious steps towards building a relationship, it's a bit rough to expect the girl to do all the work for you and tell you she is interested. Think of things as a reciprical thing. If you want to go further than tell her this. What's the worse that can happen? She can say no.... ok then so be it. At least you don't trickle on both misunderstanding one another It seems to me that you are a little passive and are sitting back waiting for the girl to make all the moves and push any relationship forward, and fine there are girls like that, but there are also ones who are certainly not as well, and by being passive you are risking missing out on meeting and building relationships because of this. Going out to a bar and sitting at the bar waiting for someone to come to you isn't going to help your situation. I personally think you have to take a bit step and be more direct or confident (or explicit) in how you interact with females you are interested, from what you have said - however as I said before, we are strangers and I don't know you. I really would advise you to have this discussion with female friends you know and they can maybe give you examples of what they see which are more personal and which you can relate to Good luck
5 :
(I am the same guy who asked this question, but my that account is blocked dont know why) Thanks olin and bla bla for your details answers. My female friends say that I do not show enough interest in some one. As for myself I think I do show interest implicitly, but may be I dont know the way of showing interest. Can u suggest some nice places in Amsterdam to go and to meet single and nice girls? I do not want to use web sites, I feel uncomfortable with that. As for me I want the girl to tell me that she likes me and wants to go further. I dont want to comment on Indonesian/dutch girls, but for all the previous girls i had, it was started from girl (of course I had some implicit signals;) ). But that explicit thing never happened here with me. Although I do receive some implicit signals here in holland but than I am not very good in reading or follow up. any more suggestions??

Well you can try dating online. Live Date Search is a nice site to start with because there, you can be sure there is no scammers.

Do you perhaps mean a "swing bed"? If so, that just means that there are two beds that can be made up as two separate beds or put together as one large bed. Or, it can mean a pull-down bed in the ceiling.

You must have a job offer in hand from a company in Holland & its that company's job to get work permit for you. You should be at least Dutch degree level qualified, that means at least M.A/MSc from Pakistan. B.Com may not be sufficient, I think next level probably is M.Com. Good luck.

You can work anywhere in the EU, but without speaking the language don't expect to be able to get anything but menial jobs on basic wages, even your English is not very good. If you truly want to work in another country it makes sense to learn the language to a degree that will get you a job that is above the minimum wage.

In order to make use of the right to freely live and work in every country of the European Union [EU] you must hold a British EU passport endorsed as British Citizen. U.K. passports issued to British Nationals of overseas territories do not qualify for the EU treaty rights. EU citizens may work in all countries of the EU, the European Economic Area [EEA (EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway)] and Switzerland. http://ec.europa.eu/eures/main.jsp?catId=9300&acro=living&lang=en&parentId=0&countryId=UK&living=&rules=Y ..

Well I lived in the UK for a couple of years and back home now.At the moment I'm looking around for the best option. Can you please tell me how you compare the United States,Canada and the Netherlands when comes to making good money and quality of life.

The Netherlands is an overcrowded anthill populated by impolite and boorish dutch with added immigrants from muslim countries where even the 3rd generation persists in having accents and being an unemployed problem Good money can be made there but if I were you 'd look at canada.
2 :
Okay first of all do not go to The Netherlands. Trust me I have lived there for 13 years. Well let me tell you my story. I am from Asia as well and moved in 1998 to Netherlands I got a Dutch passport in 2004. So I was officially Dutch I got a nice home 3 bedrooms because we had 2 children. They have got really great schools over there. In 2007 July we moved to London, got a nice house but we didn't really like it there. So we moved back to Holland in 2009 January. And we had it so so so so difficult there VERY DIFFICULT. So we HAD to come back to U.K and this is a much nicer place. And because in Holland they've got a new government I would suggest not to go there. They are so racist especially Geert Wilder, they hate immigrants. So really do not go there. Not too keen about U.K because you may also have it difficult there because of David Cameron. What about Canada or America you can afford great money over there. I hope this was enough information. and have good luck in the future. P.S Do NOT go to Holland
3 :
First of all, do you have an EU (UK?) nationality, if not, forget it as you will have the greatest problems to get visa and a work permit. Compared to most of the USA the Netherlands are overcrowded, but compared to 'downtown' of any of the big cities in the USA and Canada, it is relatively quiet. Even when you live in the center of Amsterdam you can walk out of the city and see fields within an hour or so. By car it is about 10 minutes if you do not get stuck in traffic. If you live in one of the small towns of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is mostly not farther than an hour, unless there is much traffic. Only when you live in the extremes of the country it can take all of 3 hours, but that is including a ferry. Money making, not good in the Netherlands, you can compare it to the UK, only with less top positions in businesses available, so less top paying jobs. Tax is about as high, I think, maybe even a bit higher. I am not sure about Canada, but in the USA you can get rich much easier than in the Netherlands. On the other hand, you can get real poor easier too in the USA. The Dutch have a good social network paid out of our taxes, but you will have to pay in for years before you can use it. In the Netherlands everybody has to have a health insurance, and the basic one covers most medication and as Dutch person you can NOT be trown out when you start costing the insurance, and if you have to change insurance, all insurance companies have to take you on the basic insurance, independend on previous medical history. I am not sure this would also work for foreign workers or new immigrants, so do not count on it as reason to come here. Mostly there is not much discrimination. The one party, that is very much againts islam, was suporting a new gouvernment, (never planned to become part of it at all,) had stopped with the talks, so the talks have to start anew and nobody can predict what is going to happen now. As Asian you might or might not be affected by the actions and talks of this one party, depending on whether you have that one religion or an other. But I have to say that I do not predict what Wilders is going to do in the future. Most of the Dutch have nothing against Asians, but some Asians will feel less welcome. Part of that is how you would fit in, part is which people you meet socially and for work. My Chinese friend had no problems in the Netherlands apart when as a Chinese person she went to buy something in a Chinese shop, and it worked out that she was from a different part of China and did not speak the same language. For the rest she feels at home in the Netherlands as she does in England where she lives. Whether you fit in also depends on how well you learn our language and how much you try to learn it. People working hard but failing in pronounciation are seen as willing and welcome for that, but people who do not try to speak Dutch are often ignored as 'does not want to fit in, no need to become friends with him'. And Dutch is a difficult language to pronounce, so you will have to work on it and might have to speak a broken version for a while. By the way, the country is called the Netherlands. Holland is an informal region in the west of the country as well as two of the 12 provinces. And Holland is the nickname for the whole of the country, but not the real name.
4 :
I am Chinese. When you say Holland, you have to be more specific in exactly where and who you are dealing with because even though you will be residing in a relatively small region compared globally, Holland or the Netherlands is huge in proximity on the smaller scale. The slightest change in area, situation or people makes a big difference. Though I think major cities like Amsterdam, Utretch or Rotterdam will have a slight cultural, ethnically and economical difference than that of the less populated country side. Culturally, I think if you live in the more populated areas where ethnically acceptance to immigrants, you will have no problem. Because most of the major Holland cities will have French, German, English, Italian, Latin, South-Asian, Asian and of course Dutch residing there. Outside major cities where the acceptance is less then you may come across less so. So it depends where. I fount most people I spoke with and associated while there were very friendly and open. The employment practice meaning to find work and getting a work permit is very clever, hard to obtain for immigrants of The Netherlands or EU. I like this practice because it implements protecting jobs for citizens of Holland or those of EU citizenship and the qualified. Basically if you want to make good money, you should be able to speak Dutch and another language like English or German. A way to supercede someone else as a non-Netherland native or EU native for a position, you should be able to provide an exceptional reason why you should be granted for a position basically, there is a part of the government that deals with foreignors and employment. It depends what your trade is. Just for kicks when I was visiting, I looked at an application for general staff and the application was in Dutch only. Though I did see non-Dutch individuals with jobs in various positions, so I guess positions exist for immigrants. I also noticed immigrant shop owners but also read you need a residence permit to own a business. If you can find a mid-level paying job earning Euros you can get by because it is expensive in major Holland cities. Compared to the pound you will be earning less and compared to the dollar, you will be earning more. There are rent and for sale signs in a few places here and there, as well as real estate companies but of course there is probably a condition, like you need residence papers, which takes time to get. The quality of life is great. Holland is clean, beautiful, scenic and liberal. There are many things to do and see. Holland is also expensive by American standards in comparing food and non-edible products. Holland lacks American products. The baked goods and cheese are outstanding. For a country that's top export is Heinekens and flowers, I don't think it's bad at all to live there if you can get pass the red tape.

There is a recession in Netherlands like everywhere else and unemployment is rising. Finding a job is no easy task and it is advisable to start your job search before coming to the Netherlands. Also, Dutch people tend to be highly educated and speak fluent Dutch (their native language) and English - so if you dont speak Dutch it can put you at a disadvantage for all but lower type jobs (which can still hard to come by and if you get one it may not pay for a great long term lifestyle - the Netherlands is expensive).

You will remain liable to UK tax. You will get statements from your employer about your pay and Dutch tax liability: the Dutch tax can be set off as a credit against your UK tax. Assuming that your employer has no place of business in the UK you will not pay UK tax through PAYE, but will have to account for it on a tax return after the UK year end on 5 April.

2 :
it is a lil weird
3 :
Since when has prostitution been a drug? Secondly, - All drugs are illegal in the Netherlands. Sales of marijuana (cannabis/weed whatever you want to call it) are 'tolerated' under certain conditions: - no more than five grams per person may be sold in any one transaction; - no hard drugs may be sold; - drugs may not be advertised; - the coffee shop must not cause any nuisance; - no drugs may be sold to persons under the age of 18, nor may minors be admitted on the premises. Hard drugs are absolutely not tolerated and are acted upon stringently. By tolerating marijuana, resources can be targeted to hard drugs. Prostitution is legal (did you know that there are many countries where this is the same e.g. Greece, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Finland (and even in many countries the act is legal but the business surrounding it is not). The Dutch government accepts that this is going to take place, and you can either manage it in a clean, regulated environment, whereas other countries governments sweep it under the carpet thereby creating ghetto style areas in cities at night with street-walking prostitions who are exploited and placed at grave danger. The policies are very transparant and on the whole understood well by the Dutch general public. It is just a shame that other countries do not understand them as well and insist on dealing in stereotypes, myths and rumours!

Should i leave my 2 kids for the weekend, for my partners work do in Holland

Should i leave my 2 kids for the weekend, for my partners work do in Holland?
My partner has a major big do in Holland in June, its a big posh ball, but i feel nervous about leaving my 1 year old and 3 year old here back in England. My mum is going to look after them, but i feel like i am going to miss them so much, the thought makes my stomach turn to knots. I have never left them for a weekend in my life! only for one night, oh what shall i do?. I know i am being pathetic but i am going to miss them especially with being out of the country. This trip has all been paid for by my partners company and all expeners paid, and its a big posh party, with suits and posh dresses, i know it will be amazing but what should i do?

Go. When you come back they will be fine, and you will be so happy to see them. All your fears will be allayed when you see how smoothly everything goes.
2 :
Go. You will regret if you do not go. You trust your mum with your children, and she surely knows what to do, she raised you, didn't she? This is the one time they pay you for going to the Netherlands, grab it. It is only for a weekend, your kids will not even have time to miss you, nor will you have time to miss them.
3 :
i'm a kid and i thought maybe you can hear it from my perspective! My family travels a lot and my mom just came back i missed her but it's a good head start to get the kids to be independent i know there only ages 1 and 3 but maybe you should go and come back. Even though you'll miss them you can always call them and like get them a gift or even a souvenir so when they get older they can see my mom got this for me when i was young and stuff i know i'm getting off topic but i guess i should back to what i should be saying! It's only a weekend don't worry! It's a good start for your children and yourself to get ready when they get bigger cause at one point there going to get some sort of freedom that you may have to live with!
4 :
You don't sound pathetic to me at all :0) As a mum of a 2 & 3 year old who has only left them when I had to have an operation, well I can completely empathise. The reality is that it's probably going to be a lot easier for them that it will be for you. Staying with Gran/Nan is fun and she'll probably spoil them rotten, she'll love it... they'll love it! Of course you'll miss them, but take your mobile, even take a laptop if you want and if your mum has the internet then likelihood is that the hotel will have wifi, and you can get them on the cam a couple of times to reassure you that they are doing just fine. I actually wish my parents were around to stay with my kids and I did put myself in your shoes, also uhmmed & argghed but came to the conclusion that I would go. As I said for the kids & your mum they will have a ball. Your partner will of course appreciate you being there (and this kind of thing does look better if work is offering it and it's accepted), and also thinking of you.... well I know full well that you deserve a treat (which this is). However, you have to change your mindset and really look at it as a treat - come on, the excuse to buy a posh frock, glam up for the weekend and spend time with adults with it all being expenses paid, away in a hotel with your partner and so a bit of real quality time with one another (and no "MUMMMMMYYYY" being bawled every two seconds..... that's the mindset you need to take on If you really hate it, then you'll know for next time that you don't want to do it again for the near future, but chances are that you will have a great time, and returning on Sunday to lots of kisses and hugs, well I can't think of anything better :0) So come on girl, off you go and have a great weekend!
5 :
I fully understand! I did not leave my daughter until she was 4 years old! I was tearing myself up over it. We went on an overnight trip for a wedding and it was great. Go for it! It's just one weekend and you will be so refreshed and eager to jump back into things with your kids. Your kids will probably have a great time with your mom. Have fun!
6 :
It will be in June. Why not "test" it before. Visit friends for a night, or get a hotel room in the same town - when your mum babysits. If it is really too hard, you will not be far away. But, you could find you enjoy it, and then you know you`ll be able to handle it. You should never, ever, neglect yourself completely - you`ll need some "you" time (or with partner, some "us" time).
