Your insurance should cover you in Europe. It would be a good idea to stick shades on the headlights to stop dazzling oncoming traffic.
2 :
you need insureance that covers you abroad... apart from that you legally must: have a GB sticker on your car... have light dimming stickers on your headlights carry a first aid kit have reflective jackets for everyone in the car trust me you can get in a lot of trouble if you get pulled over and you dont have them...
3 :
a UK licence will do, and valid insurance, as far as paperwork is concerned. You must have the reflecting strips on the lights or you will be illegal driving in the dark. You must also have a GB sticker on your car (assuming your'e driving a UK registered car)
4 :
If you drive straight off the ferry you will be on the wrong side of the road in Holland!
5 :
The official advice is as follows: Paperwork: > A valid full driving licence, with paper counterpart if you have a photocard licence > The original vehicle registration document > Your motor insurance certificate (ensuring it covers driving in the EU - Green card) > Your passport For general info the AA site has a really good reference page per country - here's the link for NL http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/touring_tips/AA_Netherlands.pdf Equipment: As mentioned there are some mandatory requirments > GB sticker (unless you have the newer EU licence plate with it standard) > Reflective jacket/waistcoat is not mandatory for NL but advisable of course. It is only mandatory for Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria and Croatia. > Headlight stickers to adjust the beam > Warning Triangle is officially "recommended" in NL

maybe some type of side dish or dessert to impress and show your cooking skills.
2 :
Try to go for something for her home, that way it will tie you in as family. Maybe something as simple as a nice photograph of you and him together in a nice frame. Ask your boyfriend what she likes and try to go from there. Perhaps there is something else of meaning to you and your boyfriend that you could share with her to make her feel like you want her to be a part of your lives together. As far as the card goes, depending on what you choose, you can write something along the lines of, Looking forward to becoming a part of your family. Or, Glad to have finally met my new found mom. Something nice yet suttle. Good luck! And like I said try to get your boyfriend to clue you in on her likes and dislikes so you can get something that will say Hello nice to finally meet you!

Walmart?

Not many shops employ 14 year olds, at most a supermarket where you can stock shelves. As to summer jobs, keep an eye on the local papers and bother some of the local temp agencies like randstad, manpower, those kinda places.

How do I apply for a work permit or permits in Europe

How do I apply for a work permit or permits in Europe.?
Such as Holland, Germany, or France, and other places. I do have a Passport.

Which passport you have? its an European passport? is so then you do not need a permit to work and live in the european union. If you don't hold an EUROPEAN PASSPORT , You can get a work permit that allow you to work 20 hours a week if you go to the university there. Or if your have a degree you can post your CV to an employer in Holland/germany/france and if he want you he could ask the immigration to supply you a permit. The employer need to ask for a permit for you, not you, and he will have to prove the government that there are not alot of skilled people like you in his country and thats the reason hes bringing you rom another country.

i want to get a visa to stay in holland for 6 months

i want to get a visa to stay in holland for 6 months?
without a visa i can stay for up to 3 months. next time i go, i would like to stay for about 6 months to visit my boyfriend (who is dutch). i would be staying with him, but not working. is it possible to get a visa that isn't connected with work and/or education? what do i need to do?

There is an option for people to apply for a longer term visa for family for up to 6 months http://www.ind.nl/EN/verblijfwijzer/verblijfwijzer_mijnsituatie.asp?proc=komen&procedure=Visiting relatives&land=United States&duur=1&intro=procedure&lang=en However as it is mentioned here, it does not include the classificaiton of a partner unless you are married or in a registered partnership. If you are then this is the obvious option. There must be documented evidence to prove your status and also proof that he is able to support you financially http://www.ind.nl/EN/verblijfwijzer/verblijfwijzer_mijnsituatie.asp?proc=komen&procedure=Visiting relatives&procedurestapnaam=Conditions&land=United States&duur=1&lang=en The other visa pertains to family formation with yoru bf and is on the basis of you staying permanently in the Netherlands but not just for 6 months so is not really an option Otherwise it might be the best solution for you (or better him) to give the IND a ring directly and they can give advice on your situation http://www.ind.nl/EN/algemeen/contact/informatielijn/index.asp?lang=en&subhome=&title=&origin=

I think is not possible. You only can stay for 90 days, go back to your country, wait 3 months, than you can come back for 90 days again.

How can you make a relation work, when you have differing cultural backgrounds

How can you make a relation work, when you have differing cultural backgrounds?
When dating, or in a relationship with someone from a very different cultural background, how do you make things work? I`m not referring to differences in skin color, for your neighbor could be a different color, but have the same background. But really, like someone from the USA and someone from France. Or someone from Holland, and someone from Venezuela. Anyone have experience and/or advice?

Respond using the mathematical strategy of "tit for tat"... expect good first, and give good first. Communication is the largest barrier. Learn how to learn how to communicate. Read "A lasting promise" because the first four chapters discuss how couples deceive themselves into thinking they are communicating when in fact they arent - then it gives ways to get to real communication. Learn to have fun together and do the things that fill each others hearts ... both today and for the long term.
2 :
You have to be attracted to each other first. Then everything else falls into place. You will learn from each other. I've dated chicks from every Continent except Australia and Antarctica.
3 :
What you have to do is take the time to study about each others cultural differences and backgrounds. That's the only one way to understand one another and get along. You have to make exceptions for one another also and give and take both ways..
4 :
well, its like any relationship.... no matter what the differences... i think differences are good and keep the relationship going.... dont worry too much about differences.... if both of you are committed in building a life together different cultural heritage should not matter!

It makes abserlutly no difference what so ever as long as you can understand each other then love always finds a way of sorting the rest of it out. Hard to tell, if you work for the government: 28 days. Private firms: approx. 24 days. It all depends on your contract. The most days you get if you work in education.
2 :
when my boyfriend got his dutch contract he got 25days of vacation. So I'm guessing that's standard but I know his boss gets a whole lot more. Seems like the guy is off on hoiday about once a month!
3 :
The minimum by law is 20 days (exclusive the major Christian holidays), if you work 40 hours a week. Most people get about 25 days paid leave. Since the mid eighties a lot of people get about 13 extra days, as some kind of part time working, to help the jobless to get a job. the idea behind this is that if there's not enough work for everyone we better share it with the jobless. So most people in the Netherlands have more than seven weeks vacation per year
4 :
It's 20 and than you add the obligatory holidays. Then you get more days off if you're over 50 and most employers (like the government) give a few days more. Next to that most people have an 38 hour contract and work 40 hours, which gives you another 13 days. So, you can have a lot of days of in Holland.
5 :
In Holland the minimum is 20 days. There are many companies that also have what we call ATV days (13) The idea was if everyone had extra days off, there was yet another working place to fill. That means that you hava 20+13 days of. If you are older than 60 you have 3 extra days off. if you are a sales rep. you have 3 extra days. There are people who have more than 40 days to take for a break!!

Whilst an MS in this area is definately a good start, without relevant work experience then you would find it tough to get a specialist job. The reason why I mention the specialist job is because as an American, in order to work in the Netherlands your employer would have to apply for a work permit on your behalf, and to get this he would have to prove that you and only you can do this job, as workers in (not just the Netherlands) in the total pool of labour in the EU/EEA would have priority. As a result many employers will specifically state that any candidate will already have to be eligable to work in the Netherlands (hold an EU/EEA passport or already in possession of a legal residence permit) If you want more info about this (including job links and accomdation links), then you can read the following answer http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As0A7qcQm2mNbpSyd7WC9hnty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081029005645AAYhd63 Also I have to mention that the Netherlands, whilst not in the same situation as other countries such as Spain or the UK, is nevertheless facing redundancies in the recession. I just heard that one of my friends was told she was being made redundant today. So the job situation is not "healthy" here. There is another user who answers here, and he works in the IT field so will have more insight in this than me hopefully Anyway, that was the not so good news, but it is always good to have a bit of good news as well! The potential positive you have is that your father was Dutch and on this basis you may be able to apply for Dutch citizenship. With a Dutch passport then you can bypass all the visa requirements. However it does depend on how he obtained Dutch nationality - ie was it through his parents whilst living in the US, or was it that he was born in NL had Dutch nationality and then moved to the US. Does he still retain Dutch nationality - all of these things make a difference as to if you will be eligible to apply for Dutch nationality. Here is the official info about obtaining Dutch nationality http://www.minbuza.nl/en/welcome/DutchCitizens,dutch_nationality I wish you much luck :0)

Is it safe for Muslim women to go to the Netherlands / Holland

Is it safe for Muslim women to go to the Netherlands / Holland ?
My company in Malaysia is considering to purchase consultancy services from a prestigious Dutch company. We are expected to work with them in Holland for 6 months. It's a big project However, most of our staff are muslim women and they wear the Hijab. (Taking them off is not an option cause it's our religion) They are very concerned with the political instability in Holland. In particular, there is a large anti Islam movement in Holland by the dutch politician Geert wilders. Some of our staff has insisted that we do not proceed with the project So, Is it safe for us to be there for 6 months? Can any dutch people here advice? Thank you very much :) Trish : I've read that Geert Wilder's anti Islam movement in Holland is the second largest in Holland. Isn't that an alarming fact for Muslims to do business with the dutch? Lol, I've added the exact same question in the Netherlands section. Look at how some dutch people reply to my question! I guess you guys don't live in the Netherlands.

You know, if Muslim women were allowed to carry guns, they would be much safer in any country...especially Muslim countries where Sharia law is practiced. If they were allowed to work away from home, get a job, buy property on their own and run a business, they would not be sold to men two or three times their age and would be unstoppable. Hope this help.

No - I'd recommend you stay in your own country if you are not prepared to accept the laws of the country you intend to go to. There is a British woman in a Saudi Arabia jail for wearing a bikini so I'd say if you don't want to get arrested then stay at home. Additional notes: Oops excuse my ignorance. I don't see any problem if you show your face. Travellers are told to not go to lots of countries. You just have to know what areas to stay away from and what areas are safe. You can't blame the Dutch for feeling that way as a Film Producer was murdered for his liberal views in his own country. If you are worried about your safety now you know how the rest of us feel about terrorists! (Oh! And what do they say about the Dutch then? ) Additional notes: I don't live in the Netherlands. Something you will need to get used to is people saying, 'no', to you. I live in the Western world, not some repressed muslim dictatorship. My government isn't stupid enough to let in one million muslim harpies. We want to retain our prestigious cultural identity.
2 :
Yup- that previous post shows- there is real hatred of Muslims, even religious Christians in Europe right now. Showing a cross or wearing a veil will both get rude comments. But it is the attacks on Muslim women, forcing them to be photographed without their veil- basically exposing them to anyone with a computer- really shocking. Just explain to Muslims that they will be forced to deny their religious values if they want to go to Europe- but do not feel bad, because Christians have been forced to do this for a generation in Europe already- LOL- join the club. Australia and the US still have some religious freedom, but there are fierce groups attacking religion even in these countries. Secularism is the enemy of all religious people.
3 :
Geert Wilders is not going to go all out anti-muslim. Kinda hard to do when there's about 2 million of them in this country. Most of that is directed to the poor, mainly moroccan muslims who have been here since the late 1960s and still believe they can keep their culture unchanged. If you come over wearing a hjiab you will not stand out. I know this type is common: http://peacethought.com/images/hijab2.jpg for your country but if you can vary style and color you will stand out a lot less. Actual physical safe, if you take the same precautions as you would in any other western european country it will be safe. There's at least 30 times more petty crime and theft commited by young people from a muslim background than there are hate crimes.
4 :
I now wonder with your addiitonal comments, what kind of answer you "want" to hear. Bear in mind you wrote this some three hours ago when most people who actually live, work and spend day to day in the Netherlands were asleep (I know I was!), and then you make the comment "It's true what they say about dutch people then" - what do you summise from the first two answers is true then about Dutch? Bear in mind: (a) the first answerer is the same one who talked about using taxi's from Schiphol to the centre of Amsterdam in a generic way in an earlier answer (anyone who knows Schiphol would never in their right mind blow money on a taxi when the train station is located within the airport and is a lot quicker and cheaper to the centre of Amsterdam So I will give you my opinion based on day to day life living in a "normal" city, living a normal life etc. Wearing the Hijab (and yes I know what it is) is not uncommon and does not draw attention unless you are in a very small e.g. rural community where there may not be many muslims living there. However given that you are talking about a Dutch company dealing in International business I would summise that they are located in the Randstad (Amsterdam<>Den Haag<>Rotterdam<>Utrecht) region) and here is is not the case where there are few to no muslims living. I personally disagree with the concept that there is "political instability" on the basis of religion. Yes there is a mentality shift towards respect of values & norms which are an integral part of society here and which differ in some sectors of islam (e.g. acceptance of homosexuals, acceptance of women in the workplace etc). From what I know of islam in Malaysia then it is not a fundemental sector of islam and it is the extremism of other countries e.g. wearing the Burka etc is a good example that the average Dutch person cannot equate with Having worked for an international company as the manager of a customer service dept for Europe & the Middle East Africa I do have first hand experience of recieving customers (distributors working in locals countries including ones with islam majorities) and I have never once experienced them being received in a negative manner or with any disrespect. If someone is going to come to the Netherlands and disrespect the core values that society accepts then it might well be an issue. If there is a common & mutual respect (which there normally is with persons dealing in the environment of internaitonal business) then I would say this is not a problem Personally I would reassure your female members of staff that the mentality of mutual respect is still a very fundemental value of people here and would question why they are so insistant of not proceeding with such a project? Based on media coverage of Geert Wilders (who is someone who coverts that attention)? That is a poor reason in my opinion. Likewise making opinions such as "It's true what they say about dutch people then" (I still don't understand what basis this is sourced on) from an answer from someone who likely does NOT live here and thus is working on media coverage or with their own scare mongering mentality is also not reallly a logical path to follow if you ask me. Of course this is just my opinion and I do hope that other regular answerers here will chime in with their opinions as well. In the meantime I would suggest you contact the Malaysian embassy as they will usually offer channels of support for Malaysian companies wishing to conduct business in the Netherlands http://www.kln.gov.my/web/nld_the-hague/home There are also a number of associations/societies fostering ties between the two companies who will be able to give you their pospective (bearing in mind that anyone here on Y!A can claim to be anyone or anything) - Malaysian Dutch Business Council http://www.mdbc.com.my/home.php - Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency http://www.nfia-malaysia.com/ - Malaysian Association of the Netherlands http://www.ma-nl.com/ Also you can maybe contact Malaysian daughter/sister companies operating already in the Netherlands http://www.netherlands.org.my/dsresource?type=pdf&objectid=buzabeheer:201648&versionid=&subobjectname= for a first hand perspective
5 :
It's completely safe for a muslim-women with a hijab. There are one million Muslims in the Netherlands and many muslims women are wearing a hijab. Oke Wilders is the second party in the Netherlands, but not all voter are anti-islam. Also a lot voter voted for Wilders, because they protested against the 'old' parties that are ruling the Netherlands for decades. The same in 2002 with Pim Fortuyn. Many people voted for Pim Fortuyn in 2002 and he even became the largest party in the Netherlands. And once again a lot of protest-vote against the old parties.
6 :
It is only safe for those that do not force THEIR will or THEIR religion on us. Behave, be friendly, and stick to the law of the country you are in - and you should be okay. But, i guess it`s true what they say about muslims too then...
7 :
There is an anti islam movement but not just in the Netherlands, it's kind of all over Europe. But you will be safe. There are lots of woman with hijab all over Europe and almost everyone knows that muslims are not the source of all evil. The whole movement is because (dumb idiots) people are scared that muslims will take over Europe or something. Most people, at least in the big cities, know this is not true. Lots of people who voted Geert Wilders don't see many muslim people I believe. But in the big cities there is another problem. There are some really annoying foreign guys (it's usually guys, the girls are ok) who ruin things for other foreigners by behaving like total idiots. That's also why some people don't like foreigners. But since you are all educated woman, who come here for business (so you'll probably live in a city) you will be totally safe. You will do business with other educated people, and I know this sounds like a stereotype and maybe even a little mean, it's usually the people who aren't very educated that vote for geert wilders. I think they are afraid of thing they don't know and they are afraid that foreigners will take their job. I saw a documentary about geert wilders voters and one guy said that Dutch people didn't have a job anymore because foreigners took it. He didn't even consider that maybe there were some well educated foreigners who were better for that job then that guy and his friends. Also, he came from a village with hardly any foreigners. But I can assure you that not everyone in the Netherlands is like this. In fact I don't even know anyone like this so I think you will be ok.

How does human memory work? Looking for a explicative answer.

How does human memory work? Looking for a explicative answer.?
I have heard the definitions that label parts of the brain and their role. But what is really going on? When I remember my trip to Holland a few years back. I don't just "remember" it. I see a movie play out in my mind. I see the cafes I ate at, the expressions on our waiter's face, the canals in full color, the buildings, the smells, the taste of the food, etc.. How do my neurons generate this interactive movie in my head? How do they store these 3 dimensional scenes?

look up alan baddeley (spelling?) 'working memory model'. as far as i recall thats the most accepted model of how memory works. too detailed to go thru here (plus i can barely remember!!) x
2 :
Wiki says: Classification There are several ways to classify memories, based on duration, nature and retrieval of information. From an information processing perspective there are three main stages in the formation and retrieval of memory: Encoding or registration (processing and combining of received information) Storage (creation of a permanent record of the encoded information) Retrieval or recall (calling back the stored information in response to some cue for use in a process or activity) [edit] Classification by duration A basic and generally accepted classification of memory is based on the duration of memory retention, and identifies three distinct types of memory: sensory memory, short term memory and long term memory. [edit] Sensory Sensory memory corresponds approximately to the initial 200 - 500 ms after an item is perceived. The ability to look at an item, and remember what it looked like with just a second of observation, or memorization, is an example of sensory memory. With very short presentations, participants often report that they seem to "see" more than they can actually report. The first experiments exploring this form of sensory memory were conducted by George Sperling using the "partial report paradigm." Subjects were presented with a grid of 12 letters, arranged into three rows of 4. After a brief presentation, subjects were then played either a high, medium or low tone, cuing them which of the rows to report. Based on these partial report experiments, Sperling was able to show that the capacity of sensory memory was approximately 12 items, but that it degraded very quickly (within a few hundred milliseconds). Because this form of memory degrades so quickly, participants would see the display, but be unable to report all of the items (12 in the "whole report" procedure) before they decayed. This type of memory cannot be prolonged via rehearsal. [edit] Short-term Some of the information in sensory memory is then transferred to short-term memory. Short-term memory allows one to recall something from several seconds to as long as a minute without rehearsal. Its capacity is also very limited: George A. Miller, when working at Bell Laboratories, conducted experiments showing that the store of short term memory was 7±2 items (the title of his famous paper, "The magic number 7±2"). Modern estimates of the capacity of short-term memory are lower, typically on the order of 4-5 items, and we know that memory capacity can be increased through a process called chunking. For example, if presented with the string:

The neurons in your brain work through sensory coding. That is, indormation is contained in the firing of neurons, representing what we percieve. Specific things, (ie: the faces, smells, buildings, movie) are represented in the IT cortex. These things are recognized in your brain by the neurons firing in a specific pattern for each specific stimulus. In other words, the recognition and memory of the waiter's face is done by your neurons firing in a specific pattern (say if the neurons were colored, the waiter is remembered when 4 blue, 3 yellow and one red neuron fire). When you think of the movie, another pattern of neurons fires(say, 3 blue, 3 yellow, and 2 red). These firing neurons are retrieving information from your LTM in the cerebral cortex. Hope that helps.

There are numerous materials and theories regarding Human Memory. It ranges from the Molecular Biological Theory to Cognitive Theory .This is the Human Gene Theory which I think is more plausible. and directly answers your question. National Health of Institute scientists have shown that a common gene variant influences memory for events in humans by altering a growth factor in the brain's memory hub. On average, people with a particular version of the gene that codes for brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) performed worse on tests of episodic memory - tasks like recalling what happened yesterday. They also showed differences in activation of the hippocampus, a brain area known to mediate memory, and signs of decreased neuronal health and interconnections. These effects are likely traceable to limited movement and secretion of BDNF within cells, according to the study, which reveals how a gene affects the normal range of human memory, and confirms that BDNF affects human hippocampal function much as it does animals'. Long known to be critical for the growth and survival of neurons, BDNF has also recently been shown to play a key role in memory and hippocampal function in animals. To find out if it works similarly in humans, the researchers explored the consequences of a tiny variance in the human BDNF gene, where its molecular makeup differs slightly across individuals. People inherit two copies of the BDNF gene -- one from each parent - in either of two versions. Slightly more than a third inherit at least one copy of a version nicknamed "met," which the researchers have now linked to poorer memory. It's called "met" because its chemical sequence contains the amino acid methionine in a location where the more common version, "val," contains valine. They are finding that this one amino acid substitution exerts a substantial influence on human memory, presumably because of its effects on the biology of the hippocampus. Despite its negative effect on memory, the "met" version's survival in the human genome suggests that it "may confer some compensatory advantage in other biological processes," note the researchers. Although they found that it does not confer increased susceptibility to schizophrenia, they suggest that the "met" variant might contribute to risk for - or increase functional impairment in -- other disorders involving hippocampal dysfunction, such as Alzheimer's disease or mood disorders. Unlike other growth factors, hippocampal BDNF is secreted, in part, in response to neuronal activity, making it a likely candidate for a key role in synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. To explore possible mechanisms underlying the observed "met"- related memory impairment, the researchers examined the distribution, processing and secretion of the BDNF proteins expressed by the two different gene variants within hippocampal cells. When they tagged the gene variants with green fluorescent protein and introduced them into cultured neurons, they discovered that "val" BDNF spreads throughout the cell and into the branch-like dendrites that form synapses, while "met" BDNF mostly clumps inside the cell body without being transported to the synapses. To regulate memory function, BDNF must be secreted near the synapses. They were surprised to see that 'met' BDNF secretion can't be properly regulated by neural activity, The observed memory decrements are likely traceable to the failure of "met" BDNF to reach the synapses, as well as its inability to secrete in response to neuronal activity, say the researchers. Their study provides direct in vivo data that the molecular mechanisms related to activity dependent BDNF secretion and signaling, such as synaptic plasticity, may underlie humans' greatly expanded verbally-mediated memory system, just as it does for more rudimentary forms of memory in animals. In following-up their leads, the researchers are searching for a possible BDNF connection with the memory problems and hippocampal changes of Alzheimer's disease, depression and normal aging.

Best route to drive from Holland to Switzerland but avoiding France

Best route to drive from Holland to Switzerland but avoiding France?
Does anybody know a good web route planner? I tried AA, RAC etc. and all have allow you to enter a "via" which will work, but I would prefer to just avoid France altogether and optimise the route on that basis. I want to drive in Germany for as much of the route as possible.

How can I get my hair straightner to work in Europe

How can I get my hair straightner to work in Europe?
I'm going to Europe next week and i want to bring my hair straightner and my camera battery charger. I think I need to bring a converter (sp?) and a universal plug. But what kind do I need? And is it possible that the hotels there have one? The places that I'm going to are: England, Holland, and France. I'm from Canada. The voltage of my hair straightner is 110-120. My camera charger is 100-240.

1 :
You can buy what you need at the airport when you're going. Please note that in Europe the voltage is 220, not 110 - so do not plug your stuff in anywhere without a transformer, except for the camera charger which looks like it will be okay, but ask someone at the airport where you're buying the transformer. Different countries have different-shaped plugs, but it's easy to get the ones you need.
2 :
you are probably best to purchase a global adaptor before you leave, as in England the only ones available are for the british 3 pin plugs to be used around the world. holland and france have a 2 pin plug whereas Britain has a 3 pin plug so you would probably have to purchase 2 hope that helps
3 :
In UK you will need the 3 pin and in France/Holland the 2 pin adapter. Surely you can buy something like this in Canada (with 2 entrances) to be used at these locations. You can even find sites with such pics on the net.
4 :
This is what you need for your battery charger: http://www.diytrade.com/china/4/products/4794059/Universal_Travel_Adapter_Adaptor_Plug_Adapter_Universal_Plug_Converter.html It is the only really UNIVERSAL adapter I've come across, and it's compact too! For your straightener you'll need a voltage converter: http://www.voltageconverters.com/voltage_converters.html Make sure to buy products that carry the "CE" label, else customs will confiscate them.

I am fed up with it that my boyfriend does not write me as often as I want to. How can I change that

I am fed up with it that my boyfriend does not write me as often as I want to. How can I change that?
We live in different countries. The plan is that in the future we will spend our live together but for now we have to live like this. I love to write but I also love to read. If it is up to me, I write him every day, multiple times even, via e-mail. He does not like to write, but if I do not write as often as I used to, he gets irritated. He calls every week, sometimes two times and than we are at the phone for at least half an hour to an hour, sometimes longer. I know it is expensive. But I can not bring my self to tell him not to call for so long. I want him to write, to save money, because this year I am going to see him and he will return with me so we can spend more time with each other. I don’t make a lot of money, he receives much more. He is the one who will pay for the tickets and my stay there. Sometimes I write to him and we do not get the chance to talks about those things. After these phone calls, I get fed up and wonder why I am in such a relationship. There seems to be no end in the time apart. But I can’t let him go because I love him and think he loves me too. We are highschool sweethearts. He was the first one I made love with and I was the first one for him. He went to study abroad and I stayed behind. A lot happened and we lost track of each other. I got married and he ended up having al lot affairs. Five years ago I got divorced. Because he always stayed one my mind, I looked him up and found that we still had feelings for each other. We want to be together now but I just can’t pick up my stuff and leave. I have my work here, I don’t earn much but in my country I can live from it. And I have two children, who go to school. He wants to take care of us but I will have to work too of course and I am afraid that in Holland I will not find work of my standard. I am a teacher at a highschool and I do not want to do that work in Holland because it will be so different an in fact , I am afraid of change. These things are in the future. When we get together in December, I hope we will resolve them. But for now, how do I get him to write more often? Sometimes I get so mad at him for not writing, that I just want to end it. I get anxious, and I can’t get him to understand him how I feel.

Oh to make sure things go smoothly 4 ur kids, show them a pic. of him and see what they think. maybe you could get something to talk to each other and see each other at the same time. But if he had lots of affairs. welllll u might want to think about that be4 u go down there.

well... just tell him you'd like him to write more often. even better, send him what you just wrote as your question on here

we have a "male-female" dilemma. females are used to this type of communication, males prefer this. For a relationship to truly work, both genders must learn to communicate on the other's "channel." Can someone take a year off work and legally be allowed to return to their post after (in Ireland)?
Husband and I are looking to move abroad (Holland) for a year. He holds a supervisory role in his company and we heard somewhere that its legally possible to leave work for up to a year and be allowed back into the same position. Is this true?? And would it still matter if the company was American. Could they omit Irish law rules in that situation if it is possible to leave?

How would prayer work in this scenario

How would prayer work in this scenario?
Two sports teams, Holland and Spain, for example, are about to play a soccer game against each other. Both of them want a win really badly, so all of their teammates pray to God with utmost sincerity for a victory. How would God go about choosing which team to support (remember that they are equal in sincerity).

This is not about winning or losing but that everyone plays a safe game and the one that plays the best will be the one that wins.

It doesn't work. IF there is a God he doesn't respond to prayers. Especially not for soccer.
8 :
I highly doubt that God cares who wins a ball game that is being played for financial gain
9 :
i dont think that God would make either team win or lose. i think that in the end he would leave it up to the teams, and if they both played fair and with sincerity then they both walk away as winners. i do think that God would however help prevent any injuries and protect the players on the team. hope this helps.
10 :
It is not "prayer" that works but God Who works and He works according to His will. Prayer is a means of communion and seeking His will and discovering His will and being conformed to His will. The subject is too broad to handle here. You obviously do not have a right understanding of what prayer is and regard it as some kind of magic or wish fulfilment. Did you know that none can pray until they have ben quickened to life by God? And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. .. ...And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, Saul of Tarsus was a very devout and excelling religious Jew who had obviously in his religion made many prayers to God while yet dead to God. Yet God says of him, behold - take note, this is something exceptional - he is praying. I trust you see what is being said? As to those who doubt God has a will in any given situation did not Christ say that not a sparrow falls to the ground without the Father knowing, and that the hairs of our head are all numbered? Obviously He is intimately and infinitely concerned about all matters. What result He chooses is for different reasons and purposes than we have and He will work all things for the best for all.

Will this brush and primer work

Will this brush and primer work?
hi, I have just bough some paint and primer for my apartment walls which at the moment are new and have never been painted. Will this work? The primer is from Robusto, its transparant and in dutch it is called 'Voorstrijk'... (I'm in holland). The white paint i got is Dulux pure brilliant white. The thing i'm worried about is i've noticed the roller he sold me says 'special for oil based paint'... Does that mean it won't work with my latex dulux paint? Also, can i use the roller to apply this transparent primer stuff? Thanks

stick with the camp thing. tons of overnight camps need teens during the summer plus its a great vacation. you could always try to find a internship with a place you want to work with when you get older. like if you want to be a doctor find a job in a doctor's office. and you like kids so go to a pediatrician's office. oh they always need people to care for little babies like hold them and play with them in the hospital or a place where they have incurable diseases. thats fun but you have to be 16.

what's the best pay'n'go mobile network in Holland

what's the best pay'n'go mobile network in Holland?
I'm going to Amsterdam for new years, and don't want to get ripped off for using internet on my iphone...My phone is unlocked to work on any network, so could someone please recommend a good one, with reasonable data charges operating in Holland, and where to buy it when I get there. Thanks, and Merry Christmas We will be driving to amsterdam, staying one night in rotterdam.

There's three networks in The Netherlands with multiple operators on each... If you're not going to leave Amsterdam you don't have to worry about which network has the best coverage as they all have 100% coverage in Amsterdam. If you do plan on leaving Amsterdam your best bet is an operator on the KPN network... There's a whole bunch of sim-only offers but I would have to look into which one also has data... I'll get back to you on that in the next few days... -------------edit Ok, I was going to suggest getting a sim from Albert Heijn (AH) for €9.95... Albert Heijn is the Netherlands #1 supermarket and you can almost find one on every streetcorner. They have pre-paid sims with recharges for €10 (€11 credit), €20 (€25 credit) or €30 (€40 credit), they're on the KPN network and they do not require any registration/subscription. They work straight away without activation. The starting fee for a call is 7 cents and they charge from 0.3 to 0.73 cents per second for national calls depending on the time of day and whether it's a call to another mobile or a fixed line for national calls. International rates to EU countries are always less than 55 cents per minute with a starting fee of up to 2 euro per call for countries outside the EU. Unfortunately their website doesn't mention data at all and since none of their pre-paid phones have any internet functions I can only assume that their pre-paid sim cards have no data function... The KPN website says that all their (own brand) pre-paid sim-only deals include data (UMTS and HSDPA) but it seems you can only order one, not walk into a store and buy it... But I doubt if that's actually true. Unfortunately their phone number to order one is a 0800 number which you cannot call from abroad. If you know someone in Holland you could ask them to order one for you, or you could try their international number 00 31 50 31 77 885 for more info. btw. they also cost €9.95 and they come with a free DVD, you can pick from CSI New York, Casino Royale or Ratatouille... rates are probably similar to the AH rates and I think you can also buy recharges from Albert Heijn stores... You could ask if and when you call them _________________________ Mya, sorry, but UPC only has subscription based mobile services and orange doesn't exist anymore in the Netherlands...
2 :
Get ORANGE.You can find their outlets almost everywhere.Or try UPC.

Can I become a good surfer

Can I become a good surfer ?
Im 19 years old. I live in Holland. I work on a cargoship 6 months per year. And I am 6 months per year free. I want to be become a surfer. Thing is there are no real waves here that are worth surfing. I need to stay living in Holland because of some school things, but I do have alot of sparetime. I wondered if its possible to become a surfer. There are no waves here, but we have wavepools (like surfsimulators) I can practice on those. I make enough money to go to some exotic surfsports for a few weeks a couple of times per year. I know absolutely nothing about surfing, but I am fairly atheletic, and I have a couple of months per year free to surf in the ocean and can practice in the surfsimulators here. Can I become a decent surfer ? How long does it take to become a good surfer ?? Are all those good caucasian surfers you see always from california or hawaii or australia or something ?

Surfing is very hard and takes lots of practice. In your situation, I wouldn't focus on becoming a great surfer, that's not what it's about. Have fun, don't worry about how good you are. Honestly. If you have fun on 3ft waves, then that's all that matters. To become a good surfer, you need to go out there almost every day. It's hard to become good if you can only go out a couple times a year. But try not to focus on that, as long as you have fun, it couldn't matter less.

Is it possible to get a job in Holland if you do not speak Dutch but are willing to learn

Is it possible to get a job in Holland if you do not speak Dutch but are willing to learn?
I have 5 years experience as a public health analyst, and my husband is a transport engineer but wants to work in sustainability.
Netherlands - 9 Answers

1 :
I don't think that's a problem. Certainly because you can speak English and Dutch is a lot like English, certainly the basis.
2 :
The dutch speak better english than the english,so you will not have a problem here.
3 :
My uncle is highly skilled (in IT) and got quite a bit of well-paid contract work, but his little Dutch has definitely got in the way. Consider learning a lot before you go as you might not have time or money available to learn once you get there. However if your employer is willing to let you work in English for an extended period of course you'd be fine! Have a look for jobs available at the moment, and see what they ask for.
4 :
It would help if you told us if you (both) have a EU nationality... That matters a lot as far as needing/being able to get a work permit. In general, you're pretty much expected to speak Dutch to find a job in the Netherlands, with exceptions. The IT business is definitely one of those exceptions. I'm not sure what a public health analist does exactly, but if it involves analysis of public health it's likely that it will involve working with Dutch texts and perhaps Dutch people. I'm also not quite sure exactly what a transport engineer working in sustainability would do, but my guess is that it would also involve working with Dutch text and Dutch people.
5 :
I think you can find something but it can be hard. Maybe when you find something they'll want you to learn Dutch and maybe (if it's a large company) they'll even pay your course? Maybe you can try something in Tourism as a start-up and in the meanwhile learn some Dutch and if you see that you're Dutch has improved, look for a better job that suits you best.
6 :
Yes there are possibilities. Your best chance would be with an international company that has offices in The Netherlands. The business language will then be English (It is in my job) and you can learn dutch in between. However, it is not easy at the moment - due to the economic scare.
7 :
One option I'd say apply at the NATO base or Army base. It's a requirement to speak English there. Then there's lot of tax free benefits
8 :
It should be no problem. Of course there are quite a few jobs where Dutch just is neccesary, but lots of positions can be done with just English as well. If you want to work as a professional, I think you'd have a higher chance with the large firms, because they usually already employ foreign workes so are used to non-Dutch speakers.
9 :
If you have no legal standing to work, such as EU citizenship, married to a Dutch citizen etc. you need permission to work and your potential employer must prove to the government why you should be hired instead of someone who lives there. That can be a problem unless there is a skill shortage in your field. With the economy in a slowdown, that could be a big problem unless you have very rare and required skills. If you have the skills, the language in many cases does not matter or, at least is secondary. I did it in the late '90s at the height of the DOT.COM boom. They needed IT people and I was able to get a job and a visa fairly easily. I still know a bunch of people in the industry there, and knowing what they are going through with the economic slow down (layoffs etc) I would not expect to get a visa today - there are lots of local people available. What you should do is contact some employers and see what they say about your skills. If you get some interest, it may then be time to engage an immigration lawyer to help you.

I am looking to book a cruise early 2011 for a 10 year wedding anniversary. My current agent doesn't deal with HAL and doesn't know much about them. Anyone have any suggestions on individuals? I am in Springfield Illinois, but I think most work over the phone or internet fairly easily.

Springfield is fairly large and has quite a few travel agents. I suggest you make a few phone calls to find out who books with HAL! I find that it is ALWAYS better to deal with a local travel agent than anybody on the phone or internet.
2 :
I would call Holland American directly or deal with their website. http://www.hollandamerica.com/cruise-destinations/Main.action
3 :
I actually had good luck booking online with one of the websites that specializes in cruises. You can book what you want right online, but they also have a number you can call if you have questions. Since they specialize in cruises they are very familiar with all of the cruise lines and are very helpful. I've included a link to one I've used that I was very pleased with.
4 :
I would never book with the cruise line direct. You should always use a cruise specialist agent such as http://www.cruise.co.uk Travel agents are able to discount the cruise line price and more often than not, will save you hundreds

Bar work may well require you to be able to speak Dutch, as most of your customers will more than likely be locals. You'd be better off searching for work in one of the many international companies in Holland, such as Shell, European Patents Office, International Criminal Court, Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Interpol, Eurojust, ESA... etc.
2 :
Only speaking English is a bit of a problem, high unemployment a bigger problem. But if you are not European, and as such need a work permit and all that goes with it, you can forget finding a job in the Netherlands. Some bars will employ English speaking people, when in the center of Amsterdam I sometimes feel a foreign tourist in my own country, as so many people working there speak no Dutch. Factory work and order picking and jobs like that, as well as call centers and some offices of international companies the jobs can be in English only, but you will have to realize that many Dutch speak fluent English, and there are many people willing to work for little money who have a working knowledge of English as well, even when they do come from countries to the east rather than the west.
3 :
Holland in general no too easy but Amsterdam, the easiest thing in the world! Everyone speaks english here, especially in the bars and restaurants you will find a lot of english speaking staff trying to make some money while in the Netherlands. Sometimes dutch staff members in a shop greet in english as you enter a shop, even if you're dutch! You will have no problems at all. http://www.yukiba.com/

The problem is that it's a 10-month contract and it's in Holland. His plan is to go, get some experience and tons of money and come back and get married. Moving even further away is scary for anybody in a relationship. Stay in touch through emails, webcam chats, phone calls, etc. Fly out there to see him sometime if you ever get the chance. It will be a long ten months, but in the end when he does return, you will be all the more grateful to see him.
2 :
if it is meant to be then it will happen for you two. Have faith and 10 months isn't that long to spend a life time together
3 :
Well then let fate decide, just mention that you love him and want to marry him and is willing to move with him if he wants. Tell him your worried he'll find another woman and break up with you. You have to be honest
4 :
hmmm..looks like your gona have to wait it out.
5 :
I would say just keep in Contact with him, trust me, 10 months will go by quick, if you keep yourself occupied though, but i think nothing will go bad
6 :
let him go he will be fine as long as u trust him
7 :
It will only hurt you to think about the what ifs. You have to focus on the now. The job is only for ten months and you have been in the for a year. If he stays behind to make you feel secure he may resist you from keeping him from doing something he wants to do. If you are happy for him and your trust your relationship you just have to hope for the best and make sure to keep in contact with him as often as possible. This could be a good experience for him. It will be hard not having the same kind of contact but if you remain positive it will work. If you get sad you will unknowingly take it out on him and then when you talk it will be hard to keep that negative feeling from getting in the way of your relationship.
8 :
:O thats like the movie dear john kinda!!! except john goes off to war.. anyway! i think you guys should send letters and you guys should still visit eachother, try to stay close and think about one another alot so you dont forget.
9 :
if you love him like you say you do. then it should not be a problem for you to wait for him.
10 :
I myself could never be in a long distance relationship, so I commend you for being able to do so. I can only imagine how difficult it is, but what you need to do is just not get yourself paranoid about anything while he's away, and keep that strong trust you have for him. Remember everyday without him is one closer to seeing him again :)
11 :
Let him go. The key to a good LD relationship (as you probably know) is to plan it and make it work. Schedule video chats, schedule "date nights". Find at least one time to go see him.
12 :
Fear is only in your mind, don't let it overpower you. If you want to get married you will get married. Don't think bad thoughts.
13 :
To be a considerate girlfriend, you have no choice but to support him since he is plan to go. Quarrels or any other inharmonious actions can only push him away from you. Since he has decided to get married with you, maybe you can suggest him to go to get a marriage certificate with you before he leaves. That may be more secure for both you and him. And after he get working experience and tons of money back after 10 months, you can go to enjoy your honeymoon. When your boyfriend moves overseas for work, keep good contact with him with any possible and economical methods. Give him supports in time when he meets frustration during work or adjust himself to Holland. Give him enough room and time by himself as well as yourself. Give him enough confidence by dealing with trifles all by yourself and tell him you are strong. But sometimes have to rely on him and tell him you need him. Good luck.
14 :
when he leave you for his work ,you should said to him believe him and let him go ,because it is necessary experience for you ,but you have to stay in touch through emails ,phone, skype ,etc. I think you should tell him there is someone have been attract on you , he will have a hyper tension for you .it is important for you to be peaceful to wait for him ,believe me ,there is no problem for you so love him to wait for him if you love him so much ,good luck with you .

Is it possible for an American citizen to look for work in the Netherlands, while in America

Is it possible for an American citizen to look for work in the Netherlands, while in America?
I was in the Netherlands last year and I know there is a lack of jobs there. I would love to return Holland,as I agree with their lifestyle and politics there (not to mention the wonderful people). However, I don't want to go there without a set-up job. And I would like to look for jobs, anywhere EXCEPT Amsterdam (or maybe I shouldn't be so picky just yet) or Den Haag or Rotterdam (those towns didn't seem as safe). I prefer quaint towns like Utrecht, Amerfoort (sp?), Arnhem etc, where people seem to look out for one another and I would feel safe. Oh, I also want to work for/with the native Dutch . I don't want to go there and be surrounded by foreigners (otherwise, what's the point of moving to a foreign country if you don't immerse yourself in that culture and try to learn about it?). I eventually want to learn the language. Any ideas of where I can look? Who I can contact? Thanks in advance. PS. I have a grad degree, so I do have some qualifications. By the way, I might add.....I didn't vote for Bush. I detest him :)

That last bit did it for me :) . Actually you can look on www.monsterboard.nl, even comes in english. You can specify type of jobs, location etc. Big problem will be for youthe work and residence permit. You will need these, and especially the work permit will not be just handed out. Only if you have a 'link' to the netherlands (family or partner) or if you have specific skills an employer can not find locally you have a chance. Otherwise it will be extremely difficult. But if you manage - welcome!
2 :
We use to have the arbeidsburo, it is called the CWI now(centrum werk en inkomen), contact them. By the way, in general the people of Holland are pro Bush, we have troops in Afghanistan.

well, you bailing out of the king country of earth: USA, huh? Thats alright, you liberal. So your looking for jobs huh, in the Netherlands, well, you could be a Dutch prostitute. Heck you don't even need a degree for that. You could be clog shoe maker. Id like to go to Netherlands, can i go with you. Well put our resources together, get a small place. im 22/m/ i have a bach. degree in communications. maybe i can get us over there. email me.

Check out these sites: www.expatica.com (for people wishing to live in the Netherlands) http://www.minbuza.nl/en/home (official Dutch govt. site) http://www.undutchables.nl/jobs/jobsearch/ (Undutchables job search) You may want to look at the book "The Undutchables" - it's hilarious and a great cultural insight. I would suggest studying Dutch before you go as well - the language is not all that difficult coming from English, and it certainly raises your ability to find a good job there. Another option is starting a business - it is much easier to establish residency in that case - if you've got the funds to do it, I'd suggest researching that option - perhaps find a Dutch partner to work with? I'm dying to move there too!

Go to www.monsterboard.nl You can put it in English.

Holland vs germany which is better for life and work

Holland vs germany which is better for life and work?
I currently have the option of doing my PhD with Max Planck/DFKI or at TU Eindhoven with Phillips. I have lived in germany for sometime so i speak a bit of german as well. However i like socializing and enjoy diversity of people and friends. some how i feel the germans are really conservative especially outside of the university culture.Since I want this to be more like a permanent move for the next couple of years I need your suggestion. I have heard that holland is more relaxed and english speaking. Also that the community is much more liberal. Please advice on the life style differences and job prospects in two countries with view to above. Cheers

Germany is the #3 economy in the world and #1 in Europe....that means that they are better for work. Holland has a better "life" aspect, but they have higher taxes as well. You hit the cultures right on as far as Germany being conservative as where Holland is more liberal. Even with that said, I lived in Germany for 3 years and LOVED every minute of it.

You have the option of doing your PhD at Max Planck/DFKI? Than you should go there!! Holland is nice and the people are very open minded and friendly but you should really go to Germany!!!

When can I get my work permit in Germany

When can I get my work permit in Germany?
I was in Germany until August as a volunteer. After I wanted to stay there as a normal worker. I have found a place where I can work. They asked for work permit, but I did not get it, because I am from hungary, and we have membership with EU later as Germany, Italy, England or Holland. I know, that maybe until 2011 I have to ask for work permit, because I have to wait for the time, when Germany let the hungarian people to work without. But maybe Germany let us before... But when? Has somebody information? 19 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. - 0 answers - Report It The reason why, because I am working in the social sector, and in Germany there are lot of worker who work as a social worker and social pedagogist. Ich war beim Arbeitsamt, und sie haben das gesagt, dass ich darf nicht in Deutschland arbeiten weil es gibt viel Sozialpadagogin und sozialarbeiter(in) in Deutschland. I was at the office which responsible for the work for foriners, and they said that I cannot stay to work in Germany 'coz there are a lof of social worker and social pedagogist in Germany. I worked in this school before one year as a volunteer, so I knew everything about the methods or how the day goes and about the children, and that is why I was better than a new german worker and that is why they wanted to take me not as a volunteer but a normal worker. But the german office do not care, they said that the school need a german worker anyway.

I think, if they need somebody with the job you have, you will get work permit before 2011. I have seen people from East Europe, 2004 in one EU country and they have got work permit. They were not member of EU then.
2 :
You should contact the local Arbeitsamt. They can register you, and perhaps advise you on this.
3 :
The German government has issued a restriction on all new EU citizens which does not allow them to work in Germany without a work permit in Germany until 2011. The Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit can issue you a work permit for Germany Check the following page for more information (in German): http://www.arbeitsagentur.de/nn_27986/zentraler-Content/A04-Vermittlung/A042-Vermittlung/Allgemein/Arbeit-in-Deutschland.html

Work permits are issued by embassies, not solicitors. Did you check with the Netherlands embassy in your country?
2 :
Work permits are issued by the CWI & IND in the Netherlands and an employer must apply on your behalf, NOT a solicitor. Unless you have highly specialist skills which are in short demand in Europe a work permit would not be granted in any case. So then it is likely that they are indeed such another bunch of Nigerian scammers Anyway you don't give any details (address, phone number etc) so it's almost impossible to check, but I did google it and the only listings are from vague 3rd party sites and is the typical scammer style language there, plus they use the Email @lawyer.com. I checked and this is a freemail which anyone can make. NO reputable lawyer in the Netherlands would EVER use a freemail account so this confirms it for me Secondly there is no listing for Rolaart as a business name anywhere in the Netherlands - I checked it with the KvK (Chamber of Commerce) reigster So yes, they are 100% for sure another set of scammers EDIT - I found this http://vanderrolaartparters.en.ec21.com/company_info.jsp and they list their contact details as: Mrs. Annije van der Oosterijp Hoofdstraat 123 Leeuwarden Noord 2543wd Netherlands 31 - 628 - 693618 31 - 847 - 244897 Mrs. Annije van der Oosterijp - very obviously a made up name and too silly for words Hoofdstraat 123 Leeuwarden Noord 2543wd Netherlands - there is no Hoofdstraat in Leeuwarden and the postcode 2543 WD doesn't exist 31 - 628 - 693618 - mobile number - ask yourself why a reputatble firm would only give a mobile contact number 31 - 847 - 244897 - 847 is not an area code in the Netherlands so I assume this is a redirect number which means you can be faxing it anywhere in the world Total utter scammers
3 :
Absolutely sounds like a scam, Kevin. When an E-mail offer sounds too good to be true, then it is definitely not true. It is a scam to get your personal information and/or your money, or both! Do not respond to it. Report it, forward it to the FTC at spam@uce.gov and to the abuse desk of the sender's ISP. For yahoo, report them here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/ya... Choose Fraud as the reason for the violation you're reporting on. Also, if the E-mail appears to be impersonating a bank or other company or organization, forward the message to the actual organization. And for your E-mail safety, remember: Do not ever open E-mail from people you do not know; and unless you are absolutely sure who it is from then treat them as spam. Opening spam alerts the sender that your address is a valid one and they send you loads and loads more of it to you. Never, ever give out your personal information to anyone, for any reason, whether by E-mail, snail mail, phone call, or at your front door. And do not ever send money, checks or money orders to; or cash checks, money orders for any one - ever.

can you live off of 100 euros p/w in holland

can you live off of 100 euros p/w in holland?
i'm going to study/work abroad in southern holland soon, and my internship is going to pay 100 euros a week? can i survive off of that? Is it adequate? i won't need to pay for a place to stay or food.

1 :
100 Euros a week pocket money should be fine
2 :
€100 per week will buy you a daily paper. coffee and a pastry in the morning and a beer in the evening. It may also be enough for a club ticket and something stronger once a week of fortnight. The other thing is how far is your daily commute? Can you afford a bike to start?
3 :
Small beer maybe 2 Euros, large beer maybe 4 Euros. Grass and hash at coffee shop prices (Amsterdam) maybe 5 Euros per gram.
4 :
Is this 100 euros just for pocket money? Should be adequate if you're not planning on doing anything outrageous.
5 :
That's 400 euros a month just pocket money. I have to eat from that amount too, so if you're a little sensible in how to spend it, you will do just fine.
6 :
After paying all my bills I can spend 70 euros a week. With that money I have to buy my food, clothes, presents, buss tickets etc. It's not much but I can survive with that. I can't afford to go to the pub or theater all the time. So I think that if you can spend 100 euros a week and you don't have to pay any bills or food with that money it's possible to survive of that. Going out or traveling is expensive, but doesn't everyone has to make choices how much they want to spend on those things.
7 :
damn, you got it made, if you don't have to pay for your stay or for food what else is there you would need????? you can live it up on the weekend with that money, get drunk and party hahahahahaha or if you not the party animal, take a trip to the museum and have fun, 100 a week gets you pretty far, i wish i had that much to spend enjoy your stay
8 :
Public transport is kind of expensive, but if you don't have to pay rent or food and don't party too much, you should be okay.
9 :
I would advise you to ask for an additional compensation for transportation to your job than you'll be more than fine with 100 euro's a week, but don't expect to eat daily in a restaurant.
10 :
Don't worry that's enough.
11 :
With or without hookers and drugs?
12 :
if you don't have to pay for a place to stay and food its possible to "survive" on 100 a week, it all depends on what you want to do. You won't be able to get drunk of it daily (in a bar) but, you ll be able to do some fun things..
13 :
I don't think so unless you sleep outside and live off the garbages pales . Europe is very expensive . One cup of coffee is 2.50 eu . So figure out its $3.80 Cdn . or $3.00 Us . I was there in 2004 .Good luck

im planning to move to texas this year and we were hoping to get married in holland (which is where im from) and the for me to move to texas asap after. i know the K3 visa takes at least 9 months to process but i was wondering if i could live and work while the visa is pending. i obviously would like to be with my then husband soon!

No, you cannot work until you get an EAD (employment authorization), and you need to file for an AOS to ask for it. You could visit him while waiting for a K3 but not work there... Be careful if you visit him after marrying, you will have to prove that you would be going back to your home country after the visit to wait for approval (boss's letter, rent, etc.) You have an other option which is the CR1 (I believe that's what it's called). I think it's processed faster and you can work as soon as you come in the USA with it.
2 :
If you enter on a K-3 you do not have to file for AOS before applying for the EAD. This only applies to the K-1 fiance visa. But no, you cannot work in the meantime. You also cannot live in the US whilst the case is in process. You can visit though for the time that you are permitted to, if you are granted entry. Being apart is tough, I know, as I did this whole process myself. You will make it though, we all do. Would a Holland Lop Eared rabbit be a good pet for an apartment

Would a Holland Lop Eared rabbit be a good pet for an apartment?
My boyfriend and I would like to get a pet, but don't think it would be fair to get a dog. We work 8hrs/day and aren't always going to have lots of attention for a dog. We decided something like the holland lop eared rabbit (since they are small) might be a good pet. We thought about a cat but wanted something different. Does anyone have good or bad experiences with lop eared rabbits in apartments? Or in general?

I don't live in an apartment, but i have had a lop eared rabbit before. He was excellent. He was calm and always relieved himself in the litter box. Having an apartment i recommend blocking the kitchen off and placing the cage there, that way once you feel confident that he is litter trained you can leave the cage door open and allow him to roam the kitchen as long as you have rabbit proofed the kitchen. That way you don't have to worry about him having an accident on the carpet. A rabbit is a popular apartment animal because they can act much like a combo of cat and dog. Cat because it can be potty trained. Dog because it is cuddly, can be "walked", and will eat vegetables.
2 :
Ok I don't have any in an apartment however I show them. They are wonderful rabbits and size is defiantly and advantage. I sold some of my rabbits to apartment owners and the rabbits did fine. The ones I have love to be snuggled and Absolutely Love my brother and sister pulling them out of their cages.

Neither your Nepalese passport nor the Romanian Residence Card (Permis de Sedere temporara) waives the visa requirement to the Schengen countries. If you plan to take your holidays in Germany, the Netherlands, or Spain you will need a Schengen tourist visa type C. It needs to be applied for at the Embassy of the country which is your main destination. If you don't have a main destination it will be the country you enter at first. Spanish tourist visa requirements: • Applicant's personal presence at the Consular section • Visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant (two copies) • Passport valid for the entire period for which approval is sought • Romanian temporary residence card • Two recent photographs passport size • Medical insurance to cover throughout the duration of your stay in Spain and in all Schengen states, medical costs and repatriation in case of accident or sudden illness. The minimum insurance cover is 30,000 euros. • flight ticket reservation • hotel reservation or tourist tour voucher showing the applicant's name • prove of holding sufficient funds (€62.40 per day of stay [minimum €561.50]) • last 3 months bank statements • work permit and certificate by the employer stating the profession, employment duration, monthly/ annually pay, and the vacation time • the visa fee of €60 [258 RON] All documents must be forwarded as original wiith one photocopy attached. http://www.maec.es/subwebs/Embajadas/Bucarest/ru/MenuPpal/VisadosMoldavos/Cortaduracin/Paginas/cortaDuracion_ru_bucarest.aspx .. The requirements for a German visa application are listed here: http://www.bukarest.diplo.de/Vertretung/bukarest/de/01/Visabestimmungen/ddatei__schengenvisum-englisch,property=Daten.pdf .. Please note that the German Consulate Generals in Sibiu and Timisoara do not issue visa. All applications must be addressed to the Embassy in Bucharest.

Is it possible for Americans to find summer work in the Netherlands

Is it possible for Americans to find summer work in the Netherlands?
I am planning on going back to Holland for three months this summer and was wondering if it is possible for an American to get summer work there. And, if it is possible, what kind of work and where?

No, it is impossible unless you are having two nationalities, one of them European, and even then it will be hard. All people from the European Union and a few more European countries are allowed to work in the Netherlands when they have their paperwork sorted, but that means that there is no work left for people from outside the area. In theory you can apply and if the employer can proof that he could not get anyone for the job, he can get a work permit for you. In fact this is almost never the case, with a high unemployment in all European countries, in some areas as high as 30%, no single job will be without suitable worker when advertised. And on top of that, applying for a work permit is costly, in money as well as in time, and will take a long time to get sorted. So no employer will do that for a temporary job. People from some countries can get a working holiday visa, or whatever it is called now, but people from the USA can not, because the USA does not allow people from other nations to work there and these things have to work both ways. If you are European, as second nationality, you can work in Europe, but in the Netherlands you need to apply for your social security number, and it can take up to 6 weeks after applying and you can only apply when you have an official address in the Netherlands. There might be a fast track, but I have never heard about that. And you will still have to compeed with all Dutch and many other Europeans for a limited amount of jobs, and not being here will make it much harder. Your '90 days in the Schengen zone' stamp in your passport is for tourists only, you are not allowed to work while in the Schengen zone. And the Netherlands are part of that zone, never doubt that.
2 :
Not legally. Jobs are hard to find right now for even European citizens. US citizens need a work permit, not easy to get. I am an American going through immigration process in Hungary. I am almost sorry I even started the paperwork. Very Expensive and so much red tape. Spent another $200. this week just on getting my marriage liecense translated from English to Hungarian. Only costs $15. for neighboring countires to get translations, everyone gives us US citizens a harder time of it all. Better just go and have some fun and forget working while on holiday. Actually there is a new thing where the US is taking workers from Hungary without having to have a special visa. Maybe someday it will be easier for us too.
3 :
No, it isn't. Any work going, even low-paid temporary work, goes to EU or local nationals first.

How hard is it to get a work visa in Netherlands

Well I'm also a bit confused by your other question and if you really want to move to the Netherlands or just to Europe somewhere. Anyway, assuming you do, then a Masters degree is certainly a step in the right direction, but normally you would have to also have work experience in either the managerial field (usually requiring a minimum of 10+ years) or a specialist stream of financial accounting in order to obtain a work permit. The fact is that work permits have to be applied for by the employer and will not be granted unless they can prove that you & you alone can fill this job (for good reasons) and that no-one else in the total EEA can or is available to do the job. Therefore it is not an easy task and especially in this environment. Indeed many job adverts in English already have a disclaimer that applicants must already have the legal status which allows them to work within the Netherlands This is just to get to the possibility to live and reside in the Netherlands. Citizenship can only be obtained after a minimum of 5 years (3 years if in a relationship visa with a Dutch national) legal residence in the Netherlands. You can see more details here the immigration status of Americans seeking work in the Netherlands http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoNhS_x5OwfyI.GZJm2WjL_ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081029005645AAYhd63 and also includes links to job agencys and sites which advertise English speaking jobs. Also if I were you then I would contact "Michael Page" which is a professional recruitment consultancy and who have a business unit specialising in sourcing high quality candidates for positons in finance & accounting. They will likely be able to give you a good indication of what are your possibilities http://www.michaelpage.nl/index.html?language=en
