Holland vs germany which is better for life and work

Holland vs germany which is better for life and work?
I currently have the option of doing my PhD with Max Planck/DFKI or at TU Eindhoven with Phillips. I have lived in germany for sometime so i speak a bit of german as well. However i like socializing and enjoy diversity of people and friends. some how i feel the germans are really conservative especially outside of the university culture.Since I want this to be more like a permanent move for the next couple of years I need your suggestion. I have heard that holland is more relaxed and english speaking. Also that the community is much more liberal. Please advice on the life style differences and job prospects in two countries with view to above. Cheers

Germany is the #3 economy in the world and #1 in Europe....that means that they are better for work. Holland has a better "life" aspect, but they have higher taxes as well. You hit the cultures right on as far as Germany being conservative as where Holland is more liberal. Even with that said, I lived in Germany for 3 years and LOVED every minute of it.

You have the option of doing your PhD at Max Planck/DFKI? Than you should go there!! Holland is nice and the people are very open minded and friendly but you should really go to Germany!!!
